The Hivi Q1R is a decent tweeter but fit and finish isn't on par with any of rhe SS or Seas stuff IMO. If you get a close matching set of them it would be a different story but they really vary from unit to unit.
I've used the 27TAC twice now in 2 builds, entitled EMP and Drottnar. The EMP used modded units because they did not meet spec. The Drottnar used stock units that met spec.
I used an ultrasonic notch in the EMP, but did not in the Drottnar. I think it's indeed optional and up for interpretation.
The EMP used a TMM with the 830991 in a straight 2way. I am very happy with this build top to bottom. It's a shame the 5.25" are NLA.
The Drottnar use the Seas U18 woofer, and are a VERY clean and clear, if not a bit light in the bass.
I've also used the 9700, and heard the 9900, and neither are slouches. The 9900 sounds amazing, and it's 30 years old.

From the Scanspeak catalogue, Troels pointed out that one should look no further than d2608/9130 and just spend more money on better caps.
The 9900 has a slightly different motor and dome asy last time I checked. Never dealt with the 9700 personally, but the consensus was to go for the 9900 and switch the faceplate to get the best motor asy.Wouldn't you just get 9700 in that case?
I do not like the 9130 at all. It sounds hyped, brash, and unrefined. I tend to be an outlier in this opinion though.
The 9130 isn't as good as the 9500 or 9900. The motor and back chamber are better on both of them. I usually remove the FF from the 9500.From the Scanspeak catalogue, Troels pointed out that one should look no further than d2608/9130 and just spend more money on better caps.
You're not the only one. I think it sounds too rough throughout its whole bandwidth. The cheap Tymphany D27TG35 sounds better to me, as well as all the cheaper Morels.I do not like the 9130 at all. It sounds hyped, brash, and unrefined. I tend to be an outlier in this opinion though.
Its not separable from the dome assy, but you can remove it. The Seas metal faceplate models are usually separable from the dome asy.
Dang! I wanted to put a waveguide on it.

It is very clear sounding though, but it’s both over-damped with truncated depth portrayal and often a bit harsh-sounding with a “crispy” top octave.

..well at 20 bucks each it’s a lot cheaper to purchase several for quality and matching. 😉The Hivi Q1R is a decent tweeter but fit and finish isn't on par with any of rhe SS or Seas stuff IMO. There is also the Scanspeak R2604-9200 which I almost forgot about. I've crossed it as low as 1.7k 2nd order and it does very well. 95db/2.83V is a huge plus. The best part is they're only 32 bucks!

Thats what i meant to say. That's an H26, not R26. I would really like an HR26....

We'll see how it goes, but I bought an SB29SDAC to see if I can get the output level higher.sb26STAC or ADC/CAC in augerpro printed WG...
It just got here two days ago, and I need to measure the faceplace to model a waveguide.
But the specs look promising, in particular because it has higher BL and 3dB higher sensitivity.
Something I'm curious about, is that the SB29SDAC has a very very modest waveguide built into the faceplate. It's hard to tell from the pics, but it's definitely there. It may be as shallow as just 3mm, but it's noticeably there. The SB26ADC doesn't have that.
The motors are basically identical, from what I can see, which means that it should be friendly to mounting a metamaterial back chamber, similar to what I did with the SB26ADC and documented on diyaudio.
SB26ADC and SB29SDAC Frequency response compared:
Have you compared them directly?LP90.28 is better than sdac/rdc

- What would you choose over SB29SDAC/RDAC?
