What is your favourite tweeter?

Two different worlds two different tweeters.

World 1. Hiquphon OW1 by far the best 3/4" tweeter if not one of the best all around tweeters available. Outstanding detail, low distortion when used within it's limits, and phenomenal off axis response. Not only that but they are very transparent, without any real coloring to the tonal character.

World 2. BG Neo8, although not easy to work with passively, when ran actively and the 10K hump taken care of along with a slight boost at 16k these are one of the most natural sounding mid/tweeters I've ever implemented into a dipole design. I run 6 of these per side in a dipole line array mated to 5.5" mid-basses and I'll say that sometimes it's scary how real the reproduction sounds, and I've built many speakers in my 25yrs of DIY audio.

have you compared it to the OW3 or OW4? They look, on paper, to be a tad better

Cal. In Canuckski $$$$ (ballpark) what are these and their cousins worth per pair?

In CAD, I paid less for a pair of tweeters than I did for a 12 pack of cold beer. They are stupid cheap. I can't tell you more other than when I did a side by side with the others in my collection (good selection) that they had less listening fatigue than a lot with a higher price tag. No measurements, just listening. The ribbons I have might have been better but they ought to be considering the price tag. I think HiVi tweeters woefully underrated.

Again, no measurements, just listening. 🙂

Did you compare those to RAAL?

I currently have the 70-20XR but i wandering if i could sell those and buy cheaper one without loosing all the raal qualities.

I've used the neo3 and the Raal extensively. Not the 70-20xr, but the 140-15. Neo3 is great, but the Raal is a keeper.

How'd you get a 70-20 anyway? I'm direct, so I'm allowed to buy them, but they are not really for DIY.

Incidentally, I am making a new Raal order and I might be able to help out a few DIYers get some 140-15 or 70-10 for a nice discount. I offered last time, and it worked out well for a few guys. PM me if interested.

A lot of OW1 and ribbon fans here. Has anyone tired the Be ScanSpeak?
I am working on the theory that excellent results can be had from moderate priced tweeters if used very well. The higher the price, the easier to use well. Thoghts om this?

The ScanSpeak "Beryllium" is a great low distorting tweeter, but it's 2.5 times more expensive than the D3004/660000 AirCirc tweeter that is virtually the same driver, but uses a textile dome.

Both are great tweeters and it's more a matter of personal taste and preferences and of course "budget".

A more expensive tweeter doesn’t necessarily mean it would be easier to use!

ScanSpeak Textile Dome vs Beryllium Dome!

I really liked Selenium ST324, no longer available...
Selenium ST324 Super Tweeter ABS Housing 264-360

Others have made expensive clones of the original
JBL design, but this cheap plastic version was best.
Proof that diffraction can be put to work in your favor.

If the sound isn't the same off-axis, you are wasting
your time. You fight a problem cannot be equalized...

Soft domes work great too, if you don't need any sort
of efficiency or high SPL.

I would be interested to hear both AMT and Lineaum.
