20. I don't like to leave home as I'm worried my speakers might run away. This makes it difficult to make a living.
20. I don't like to leave home
I have experienced this many times. This time with the new speaker it is not the best I admit. One experience is with the same set of drivers, exactly the same enclosure. The speaker measured okay, and has been my reference for quite a long time. This new one doesn't do things as well as the old one, but this one doesn't do anything wrong, so far, that's the different.
You are not following aren't you 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion tho.
I guess I am missing something. Good luck with your quest.
21. Can't sell 'em because they are priceless and unique.
Even L and R are different 😱😛🙄😎😉

My speakers have always sounded different between left and right, no matter how hard I tried to match them 🙂
Cool, another Tannoy lover 😀
How long have you been listening to the system? The longer the better. It means it has been tested by time.
Are you using tube? It's too easy to enjoy tube amp 😛
I've got a pair of Little Red Monitors just sitting in my bedroom at the moment.
I use another pair of K3148 drivers to listen to. They have been recoiled by Lockwood (increases power handling to 300W or so), live in diy 46L cab and are crossed at 175Hz (I think) below which I use Volt RV3143s in rather large T/L cabs.
Above 15kHz I use a Fountek JP3.0.
The whole thing is run analogue active with two modified BSS FDS360 crossovers, 3 MC2 Audio amps (MC750, MC450, T500) and one Omniphonics Reference 150 and a parametric equalizer.
Been using that for 5 years now and have no complaints I can think of.
Could do without the ribbons but I can't be bothered to take them out. So I'll leave them in there until I need them for something else.

Seems like you have very small issue with the ribbon?
People said that in audio system it is better not having everything you like but having nothing you don't like than having everything you like but also a few you don't like.
Ribbon imo helps in avoiding issues. But I prefer to face issues and solve them.
I'm pretty satisfied with my current speakers 😀
The best test is that one of time, if you still listen to them as much after some months then they're definitely OK.
When something doesn't sound right you'll gradually listen less and less to your system, your subconscious directs your habits 😉
One complaint that I have is that the recording quality has become very easy to notice, the difference between a good and a bad recording has become bigger with my current speakers. Especially the difference in amount of bass between recordings is huge.
So it's only a complaint for bad recordings 🙂

Agree. And I know your speaker 😉
Choosing the right driver is one important criteria to build the best speaker. If I have the money I will for sure take the same drivers as the one you use.
My similar build, nothing to write home about. I always suspect that TMWW must have something wrong. Or may be it is just about skill.

I think I still haven't understood this phenomenon. Aren't standard recordings are good enough? I mean the worst of it? I enjoy Bee Gees. I think the recording is very old/bad.
The sound quality I hear with my speakers is now dominated by the quality of the recording.
Bad recordings give me bad uninvolving sound, good recordings get me close to heaven 🙂
Old recordings can also be very good for example: Gene Vincent
Be-Bop-A-Lula
Not my favorite music, but very enjoyable because it sounds so good.

A lot of DIY-ers seem to build modestly-sized speakers that look like the sort of thing you can buy in the shops, but which then cause them to fret over the bass for ever more. If the speakers have to fit in the living room I can understand why they do it. But if you had a dedicated listening room would you not just build huge boxes with huge woofers..? (Three way minimum and dispense with trying to integrate a separate subwoofer with the main speaker). Possibly ugly, possibly dominating the entire room, but a rich, seamless, effortless sound, circumventing so many of the gotchas that plague more compact systems..?
(Luckily, I love the look of huge speakers and would happily have these, for example, in my living room (can't say the wife would go for it): Explore KEF - Reference Series Model 105 - KEF International).

The only issue with the ribbons is that as I get older they don't make enough of a difference to justify their existence.
That said I'd happily swap those 3148s for a pair of 3142 even if it is just to satisfy my curiosity. Anybody in the UK got some and wants to swap?

Especially with tweeters. I often buy more than I need and then return the unmatched ones.
OK, truth be told, I don't return them. I have lots of tweeters. My name is Cal and I'm a Speakerholic. 🙂
22. My speaker make me broke, sounded better if you change some expensive power chord
23. My speaker make me sick, i'm sleep deprivation
24. My Speaker make me headache, if i change something ( power chord, interconnect,
..... speaker cable ) in 15 minutes his suporter wive and kids will make a complain if
..... sounded bad
😀 😀 😀

Yes, that's right. I have many subwoofers here. I can use them which then cause me to fret over the midrange quality 😀
It is very expensive to reproduce low frequency at the same level as midrange quality. Scan-Speak Revelator midwoofer for example, is still within my budget, but the Revelator subwoofer is out 🙁
Too combate the room modes we often need more than a pair. But for 12m squared, I don't need any subwoofer. I'm positive about this 😉

I have once bought 15 pairs of tweeters. I was shocked that they were completely out of match.

Objectively, we're talking about off-axis dispersion here. But I prefer to talk in subjective manner... Because it is still so hard to relate technical reality with perception.
I'm not talking about listening off-axis or on-axis. To me some tweeters just lack something, and some tweeters just have too much of everything in the high frequency domain.
If it is lacking something, you have less issues at HF reproduction domain, but you cannot add what was not there.
If it has too much of the energy in the HF domain, like Dynaudio tweeters, it can be a big issue when not handled properly (too bright, harsh etc.). But when you can solve it by removing what is not needed, then you have what is supposed to be there.
One of the best thing with my speaker is that it can produce metallic HF instruments naturally. I was amazed when the first time I heard a splash of cymbals in the space. It was the sound of metal and so unbelievable can be produced with such weight by dome tweeter.
complaints about my speakers?
1. Having a 15" woofer and two 5" mids, it lacks crispness in the upper bass range. the snare drum and pistol shot are missing some fidelity.
2. the box is 9 cubic ft, sealed. It's too big for the woofer.

Imo, it has nothing to do with driver size. The crossover is not good (probably wrong), that's all.

If it is too big for you or your room, that's a problem. If it is too big for the woofer, it's a design mistake, make it smaller then 😀
