This 550w is geniune, having measured the voltage at the speaker terminals under load.
The drivers are JBL GTO1214, and the cabinet is about 30L in volume. WinISD's predictions of excursion with various power is very close to what I can see.
WinISD also shows ~1kW would be needed to get full excursion around 20-30Hz.
For now though, 550w into a pair of 12"ers is more than enough for 95% of what I want to do.

That's not too big. Tho boxy and more suitable for light jazz, Tannoy has been my favorite brand. Tannoy speakers suit my taste in general.
You wrote, "What I’m trying to do here is to make and gather a list of possible complaints so I can find out what could be the weakness of my current speaker."
Maybe, I am a little mixed up here, but wouldn't the best way to do that be by testing your speakers?
How does the perceived performance of someone else's speakers (which are different from your speakers) tell you how well (or poorly) your speakers perform?

Like I said, no matter how expensive your speaker is, the possibility is high that you still have something to complain. Why? This is related to the "black art" of speaker design. My philosophy in design is quite unique.
Many people found that many high end speakers are terrible. In what possible way? That's the question.
Take one parameter for example. If your expensive speaker make your sleep disturbed, no matter how good it is measured, in my eyes the design is WRONG. Not just bad but wrong.
And that is only one type of complain. There are many others. I want to make sure that for every kind of complaints as experienced by others, those do not happen to me and my speaker.
Yes, I'm gathering subjective perceived feeling here, not measurement because I don't want to discuss about measurement. One thing I already mention about measurement in another thread: "any speaker having impedance fluctuation reaching 20 Ohm can never be one of the best speakers". I have many other more important measurement "rules", but I prefer to keep those out of discussion as much as possible

19 . I love every sound coming from my speakers .
(DIY Tannoy 15 DC's Pumas reconed to 3839's in 110 liter reflex tuned at 35 Hz .DIY crossover top notch components . powered by upgraded L15D's fed by an Emotiva UMC-1 , enyoing it every day , every source , even commercials on free to air digital TV, or an old Beatles LP from the turntable . stunning at high Q digital recordings.best ever Eric Clapton "Unplugged" I ever heard ! Listening and viewing well recorded Dolby digital movies or DTS music from , for instance , the Eagles makes me a very happy and proud DIYr)
Cheers ,

Cool, another Tannoy lover 😀
How long have you been listening to the system? The longer the better. It means it has been tested by time.
Are you using tube? It's too easy to enjoy tube amp 😛

Pocoyo, I have met many DIYers that prefer their cheap systems than the high end systems in a show.
The Focal woofer has strange character. Most of the time, either you love it, or you hate it.

Well, you are free to take any tact you want.
However, consider the single most prominent reason why speakers seem to underperform for people has to do with the room! You can't control that.
Designers try to make speakers work in as wide a set of environments as they can, but it is a physical impossibility to be all things to all people and it always results in compromise.
You can't make even the best speakers sound good if the room is bad and the placement of those speakers is wrong.
So, your quest for the Holy Grail is taking a flawed approach (in my opinion) because simply polling what other people complain about does nothing to understand the root causes for their complaints.
It's like asking people what they don't like about their ride to work and getting an answer that says the ride is bumpy. It is the road, the tires, the car, or is the driver the problem?
You can't use that information to design a brand new car from scratch and expect to resolve the "problem" without understanding the root cause. If it is the road, no amount of engineering to the car will fix that.
Besides, what is the definition of bumpy? It's arbitrary, just like most of the complaints people state about their speakers. You really don't know if it is the speaker, the room, or the listener or some other component in the chain.
Cool, another Tannoy lover 😀

I'm not using tubes , but some eBay class d amps by LJM , listening to Tanny's for 40 years now , Ardens , Berkeleys ,Super Reds , and the newer ones DMT15's wich I didn't like so much and had to modify them thanks to all the forums and was always happy with the upgrades . This combination I mentioned is playing for more than a year now , I own several amps and speakers , but this trio is the absolute winner .
This post initially draw my attention when I read it , after reading point 1 and 2 , I was thinking this is not about speakers , but about my wife 🙂
Cheers ,

Why not.
Twelve square meter has been one of the objective before everything started. I have also tried to research the highest roll-off frequency required for the woofer. I listened to musics with subwoofer to see what I could have possibly missed.

Well, why not try to understand my way of thinking...
Speaker design is a black art, meaning that I may think that my speaker is the best, while actually it is not. What I need is to observe how other people look at the situation...
For example...
If you think your speaker is good, then try to look at it the way I look at it. Go to bed with the music playing and observe your feeling in the morning when you wake up. Some people may even wake up in the middle of the night and quickly turn off the system. This is a sign of terrible system.
And the point is that: you can still think that your speaker is good, but you know exactly that I don't think it is, and then it is your call what to do about it, question yourself, or do whatever you want to cool your mind.

Now there is this test for you...
For many people, it is very easy to fall into a trap believing that our system is wonderful. Especially if it is expensive and you have put big effort to tweak it to suit your taste.
So, okay, you enjoy your system. But, do people around you enjoy it too? Start with your wife... 😀

Why not? How can you mandate the size, proportion, and furnishings in my (or anyone else's) room? Even the placement of the speakers and subwoofer in a room changes things as does where you position the listener.
Add to that you can't possibly be sure that the replies you get are all from a similarly controlled environment.
"Speaker design is a black art" That it was back in the 1960s, but today design is a science. Understanding personal perception is another matter altogether, but still a science in its early stages.
However, you can learn all of these things (and more) by doing what you are doing. It will just take you a lot longer than a structured approach to the field of acoustics.

But okay, I will try to follow you instead...

What measurement criteria can you suggest to make sure that I'm not off track?
I have my own criteria. But I want to listen from you, what are yours.

My wive will never! read this forum , because she hates me spending hours on it every day ! and offcourse I was joking 🙂 But answering the question , she uses the sound system more than I do and keeps playing our old vinyl collection every day since I finished the system ,because she loves the sound of it . My system is not expensive , The Tannoys cost me about 1000 dollars each , the UMC-1 including shipping to Australia 600 dollars and the amps ( 5 plus power supply , case and protection about the same .
Many friends came over last year and whenever the sound system was active I got oh's and ah's , so it's not my personal satisfaction playing up here and hey , look at the components , it could be worse. I did a lot of listening in my life and boy , this sounds good !
Cheers ,

Start with Loudspeaker Design Cookbook by Vance Dickason.
If you are well versed in math, Bullock on Boxes by Robert M. Bullock and Robert White.
For testing, Testing Loudspeakers by Joseph D' Appolito.
That is a good foundation to get going with.
But answering the question , she uses the sound system more than I do...
