Spill even one aspect of topology that is a game changer for a 0.25v/us device. So slow of a device and you talk like a medicine show huckster....ye of little faith!!
Here is what Audionics Of Oregon did in 1979... it is shall we say "confidential" but this I can say - there is a way to perfect the use of a ua709... say no more!

I've yet to see a DBT/ABX that shows otherwise!
I wouldn't exactly call it "trolling".

Yes, there is! There is a perfect way to use a uA709. Wrap it gently in a few layers of aluminium kitchen foil, place on an anvil, hammer forcefully ten to fifteen times with a good hammer, place the now flattened foil package inside a sealed glass bottle to minimise escape of contaminants, and bury the whole thing gently in the nearest flower-bed. 😀there is a way to perfect the use of a ua709... say no more!
This method also works on uA741s, by the way. But at least they don't latch-up, and/or oscillate violently. So it's a bit of a shame to destroy a functioning uA741.

That rings a bell, can't say I've tried it with a 709 though.
1% metalfilm in '79 must have been expensive.

I recall Doug Sax using uA709's with followers on well regarded direct-to-disk recordings for Sheffield lab. I think the output devices were complementary.

Not particularly different than today...

In 1979, I regularly bought them from this guy in Indiana, price was quite reasonable. This is a classified ad from p.110 of the July 1978 issue of Audio magazine which, miraculously, is archived online: here

1979, 12¢ then would be in the order of half a dollar the pop now.
Not particularly different.
(did I mention I buy opamps by the dozens from the back of a truck)
Did we ever define what an opamp is?
I too am guilty of assuming the question referred to integrated circuits built on wafers.
