I read that the NIRCam's F212N (2.12 micron) filter provides data on molecular hydrogen to help understand the atmosphere of Jupiter.

The images in the above posts are actually a few weeks old and taken during the commissioning stage.

The new raw, unprocessed image in the attachment was taken on 27th July and is the result of an eleven minute exposure.

As Portsmouth, UK's premier Mathematician I have been struggling to figure out a simple problem.

When is the best time to go swimming down at Southsea Beach? A very healthy activity which will prolong your life, IMO.

How would Felix Klein approach this? Projective Geometry, I suspect.

Top man, IMO.

Nothing worse than to go for a splash against our notorious currents! It's like being on a treadmill, or a hamster wheel! No rest! We get double tides near the Isle of Wight.

As a keen astronomical observer, I notice that High Tide is at 16.33 PM today. My "current" theory is that 14.00 will be slack current.

Will report back on results. but feeling confident here.

I can report a very successful Scientific Experiment this Afternoon. Swimming conditions were perfect as predicted.

I think I have cracked it! 😀

My good friend, Finn, who is expert on the nature of the Rolls-Royce Spitfire V-12 27L Merlin engine took a break from his life-guarding duties to snap a picture of me in my colourful £5 Primark trunks:

Costs £4,000 for a Spitfire flight over Portsmouth. Surely good value?

Looking good for a 68 year old, Steve! 😎

Are you holding a waterproof container for your gaspers in your left hand?

I recommend you wear a sun hat like in your younger, more hirsute years (see first attachment).

Considering a two seater Spitfire is worth £3,000,000, the cost of a flight in one seems more than reasonable.

However, it must be said that the cost could be much higher (see second attachment)! 😱

You're a brave man!

I was going to start this post by saying "Coming back down to earth...", but I'm actually returning to the topic of the universe!

I've been reading about kilonovae. 🤓 So called because a kilonova is 1,000 times brighter than a nova.

A kilonova is the result of two neutron stars colliding. The universe's heaviest and most precious elements, such as gold and platinum, are forged in these collisions.

Apparently, the quantities of precious elements produced in kilonovae are greater than in other cosmic smashups. In fact, it is estimated that a single neutron star merger can produce 100 Earth masses worth of gold - which would be worth about 100 octillion dollars at today's prices! 🤩
