What is The Meaning of Life?

Why does anyone feel the need to believe that there is, or should be, a meaning to life?

Every single creature in the visible universe "speaks" in favor of it.
It is the most logical conclusion ever to have existed.

All of the creatures are programmed to choose life.
Every normal uncorrupted scientist acknowledges that for a fact.
The order of the created universe is of such high quality that any other conslusion
would seem illogical.

But there is the element of confusion, and it complicates the matter.

If you choose to lie for a living, then no enlightment will come to you.

But that doesn't answer the question what the meaning is of it all.
So far, nobody has answered that, despite all the flowering prose.
Maybe that is because there isn't any?
The reason we a all searching for it is that we cannot stand living a meaningless life.
So we need to invent it.

It’s a quote from Conan the Barbarian,
Lighten up Francis
Please note that it looks like you replied to my quoting by Oscar Wilde.

Sorry to remind you, but the forum Quote is there just to avoid this kind of misunderstanding. 🙂
Or address your comment to the member by writing the member's nickname preceded by the "@" character.
Only to not lose the meaning of the posts in this beautiful thread. 😉

We need to invent it.
Exactly.
The only meaning is what one gives it.
It may be to care for your children and their children.
Or do some other project. Like posting at diyaudio 😀

That's right: "When a man lies, he murders some part of the world". (Excalibur, 1981)

However, the OP is certainly not the first to ask that question 🙂 and, of course, there is no one-size-fits-all answer.

Unless, maybe, one turns to the spiritual world, which as everyone should know does not concern religion, but the heart.
But only those who ask the question will look beyond the logic and/or materiality of things, of course. 😉

You are not capable of inventing the meaning of life. You are called upon to make a decision,
to choose to live or not. That is the most important decision a human has to make. It's a lifetime
process.

The part you are having a problem comprehending, will become clearer to you when the time is right.
Not everything has to be clear to everyone, at the same moment.

A man was determined to find out what the real meaning of life is. After many years of searching for the answer he decided to go to Tibet, where he heard a famous guru lived way up on a mountain he would go see. After an arduous trip and climb up the mountain he finally encountered the guru, who wore colorful robes and had a long white hair. After some chitchat the man got around to ask the burning question, what is the meaning of life. The guru thought about it and then proclaimed, life is a fountain. The seeker responded, in shock, a fountain?! Then the guru asked meekly, it’s not a fountain?

I don't think we need to invent it, hasn't it all ready been discovered by those who can turn down the noise, and turn up the silence.

Music seems to be one doorway to this, and unconsciously or not, that's why some find ourselves attracted to it.

More has been written (so I'm told) on the path to self realization, than any other subject.... ever. Who wrote about such things, those who never found the silence within, or those who did ?

The ones who did, knew it to be of such importance as to try and describe the indescribable. Try and write down the experience of tasting a piece of fruit to explain it to someone who has never tasted fruit. Now stretch that out to help someone perceive the un-perceived. It's a mammoth task it seams, with a mammoth amount of text to go along with it, add to that the size of our current ego/identity in it's search for pleasure and instant gratification, then we find ourselves where we are today. Yes maybe AI will corelate all the text and point us in the right direction.

To me it seems like a game that's very believable, and the creator of the game broke off pieces of itself, wrapped them in forgetfulness, and threw them into the game, and here you are...... 🙄

And those who say, that can't be true, might want to play this game some more, and those who think maybe that's true, let me look into it some more, are getting ready to finish up this game and start the next one.....😀

Well, someone has to say it...
42

If you ask "to what question the answer is 42?" then answer is "What is the meaning of life, the universe and everything?"

Now this does not necessarily invalidate your answer, but 42 is broader than just the meaning of life alone. However, if you say that the implication is bidirectional (the meaning of life is 42 and 42 is the meaning of life) I would disagree.
