I am playing with all sorts of ideas but I would like to at least consider some 8" inch designs.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Completely open to that. I assume a more expensive one to get a low enough FS and low distortion to mate with most 8" drivers. Perhaps a Scanspeak illuminator D3004/602010 as it goes low or the Cheaper SB Neo looks good at less than half the price.

Thanks you guys. Some great options. The SEAS Prestige P21RF looks like a very economical and nice option. I would want a tweeter that can go low as I need very good off axis response for these.
Seas Excel W22EX and Scan-Speak 6600 should be an awesome combo!

The budget version should be this one: Dayton Reference RS225

Two differents ones that I would use are
M130 Woofer - M130
or
Silver Flute W20RC38-08, 8" Wool Cone from Madisound
I preferr the Silverflutes

Why isnt there more 8" 2-way?
The answer is ugly power respons vs low xo point and distortion.
And what to do about it?
Use a tweeter in a waveguide who controll the off axis response.
The easiest solution?
Seas 27TBCD/GB-DXT THE ART OF SOUND PERFECTION BY SEAS - H1499-06 27TBCD/GB-DXT
and
Seas CA22RNY THE ART OF SOUND PERFECTION BY SEAS - H1471-08 CA22RNY

I agree Norcad, that would make a nice 8'' 2-way.
This time the woofer looks better
But tweeter definately doesnt
Better go fore at tweeter with low 500hz Fs
Tho, Im not sure why choosing 8"
The choise of 8" should be justified by higher sensitivity, and better lows
But really isnt

Look familiar ?
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Art Loudspeakers Art Emotion. Specializing in the design and manufacture of domestic two channel and home theater loudspeakers"
Very nice speaker too, they have been reviewed in the Hi>fi+ magazine many times.

Those use the Crescendo (no waveguide) with a Seas 10".
Tinitus, It is a design option for me with a 22 liter cabinet to go sealed. I am not convinced but I really like some of the options that came out of this thread. I think the 27TBCD/GB-DXT could work for my needs as this "Home Gym" speaker will be listened to off axis more often than not. As you said though it looks like a 2k or so crossover for this with the impedance hump and most of the eights will start beaming by at the point.
Presumably the larger cone area will give a little bit more bass extension for the large area. I don't want to give away the midrange doing it though.
How in the world, with so many options, does one make a choice? 🙂
