A dog in the wind!
Isn't that a Kansas song?
Yes, it's my sweet little doggie, a Great Pyrenees, with her head hanging out the window of my wife's car on the highway. My wife snapped that pic in the side mirror.
A Great Pyr is pretty much a cross between a St. Bernard and a polar bear.
Showtime was brand new and we carried it, HBO might have existed, not sure. MTV I do not remember.
HBO existed in the late 70's. It was called Home Box Office then and was only on from 4 PM until 2 AM, although there were few built out cable systems to carry it. There was the "Private Channel Club" in downtown Miami that broadcast HBO on 2.15 GHz and charged $20 per month for the equipment to receive it.
Being an RF engineer allowed me to figure out how I could "monitor the microwave energy that fell on my property 40 miles away." Showtime appeared around 1980, about the same time that HBO went to a 24 hour format. MTV appeared in late 81. By then I had a 12 foot DIY satellite dish to monitor the activities in the Orange Bowl on Sunday afternoons that did not appear on local TV.

Only if your dog is named "Dust." I have been to more than one Kansas concert, and some controlled substances might have been consumed.
HBO got me in trouble. Somebody at school told me Lady Chatterley's Lover was worth watching (hehe), so I set up the video recorder and went to bed. Next morning nothing worked, no TV, no video. I had forgotten about the movie and went around the house asking questions. Haha. I still remember the looks.....I was told to wait for my father. Turns out my father made a night visit when I was asleep, who knows why, maybe father's love, but what did he do? The TV was not unplugged but it didn't work. It's still a mystery. I didn't have a conversation with him, I went to school and when I returned everything worked. Huh? BTW several months later I found some nasty (very nasty) movie under his bed. Waaay nastier than mine. Where's the justice?HBO went to a 24 hour format.

LOL, it does have that polar bear look...
best watched after smoking a fattie!
For a late night run of a Cheech & Chong movie in the cinema in the '70s overhere, you wouldn't have had to light your own bong.
In the back seats, you would have been lucky to catch a glimpse of the screen.
By 1980, you could have inhaled a freebee in every corner of an "alternative dance club" in these parts.
The weed/cannabis production side is the problem here.
Smoking & growing is socially so accepted that in some areas, people have turned the living room of their home into a plantation.
The sheer volume of the market makes it too attractive for heavy hitters to leave it all to moonlighting hippies.
Where those two meet, often leads to situations as the scene from Guy Ritchie's movie ''Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels''.
Intensified police actions makes the growing business cross the border, to Belgium and Germany, all hail the EC.
(still small fry compared to the Colombian crack operation at Curaçao, where shot and/or fried stiffs turn up on a daily basis)
After years worth of doing other rather more productive things, the strains of stuff out there has gotten progressively more & more potent, so, ..be gentile on yourself...if your so inclined. It will be familiar to you, but chances are, it won't do it for ya', as it once did. Time has a strange way of giving you a new prospective... on all things.
------------------------------------------------------------Rick.........
Oh I have had some killer Strains, years back all that good Kush and Purp was the thing, some Potent stuff man haha, yeah the 1/2 hit Quit **** etc haha
I liked the Purp Strains a lot so therapeutic/relaxing, felt like all anxieties/depression you could ever have just melted away etc, then feeling energized/uplifted.
I liked a lot of the other Kush stuff all depending more for like Pain etc some of them are just that Potent Body high/Lethargic/ 'Couch Lock" etc haha
I can't stand the fact it seems like forever/always many do not want to admit/face the facts that it is really helpful/medicinal. I can tear apart every damn negative thing the Nay-sayers can even remotely think about...
They usually go into the "Gateway" thing that is total ********...ask anyone/a lot of people, They will probably tell you Alcohol/Tobacco is far more of the Gateway and it is.
It then goes back again to that moderated/responsible/safe usage like with anything. I mean yeah if you are NOT concerned about that/Harm-Reduction... a lot substances yes you can/will develop some dependent like/abuse characteristics to it. Some just hell of a lot worse than others. There's really only a handful of Substances I'm actually really afraid of from past experiences...it's the strong Opiates and equally Deadly strong/powerful Stimulant's.
More of the Stimulant's really. Because it's so entirely easy to just lose yourself within them.

My 2 cents on the drugs and music debate:
I don't partake anymore as I am one of those unfortunate people who becomes a bit psychotic in the aftermath. These days I don't even drink that much anymore. Back in the day though I did experiment with a few things.
Music is undoubtedly enhanced by the effects of pot, mushrooms and acid. For me the sound stage became almost infinitely wide, little details took on much more significance than when listening normally.
Writing music, or attempting to do so when intoxicated isn't always the most creative venture, though at the time it often seems so! I would suggest though that the open mindedness that hallucinogens can foster is definitely conducive to creativity. There was a general sense of anything is possible at that time, this I attribute at least to a certain extent was down to experimenting, primarily with pot and mushrooms.
I can remember listening to the first track ( breathe ) of Dark side of the moon over and over when tripping on mushrooms, the experience was like swimming in velvet! The slide guitar sounded so incredible the sound soared right threw the very fiber of my soul.
Klause Schultzes Time wind was another great one with mushrooms and even pot if you smoke enough or eat it. ( for me personally eating pot was on a par with mushrooms and acid )
There are so many great songs / music that are significantly enhanced when under the influence. It does seem very probable that drug taking has contributed considerably to the creation of great music. Whether it is down to composing / recording whilst intoxicated or to the generally broadened mindset that partaking can foster.
Finally ( buzz-kill ) There is a small minority of people for whom pot / mushrooms / acid and other psychotomimetic drugs are definitely a bad thing and can land them in a psychiatric hospital, in my previous life ( before I had a stroke ) I worked as a psychiatric nurse and did see the downside of drug taking for certain individuals.

Daughter #1: "Dad, I know you tried pot before but, would you do it again?"
Me: "Yes."
Daughter # 2: "How old were you when you tried pot the first time? Like was it high school, university, or later?
Me: "Yes."
Daughter #2: "Which one?!"
Me: "One of them or all of them. I answered the question."
Daughter #1: "Hmm. Okay, would you be disappointed in us if we smoked pot?"
Me: "No. But I would be disappointed if you smoked it all the time and became a total burnout, donothing, lazy, stinky loser."
Daughter #2: "Ya, there are some kids at my school that are like that. All the guys that hang out with E**** are stoned all the time."
Me: "Some of them will grow out of that. Most of them, probably. But some of them will do that for the rest of their lives and it will limit their opportunities. Smoking a lot like that when you are young can cause changes in your brain. Heavy, daily abuse of anything is going to cause problems."
(Then the conversation turned to cigarettes)
Daughter #2: "I don't want to smoke (cigarettes), but I can't say I won't ever try it. How will I know if I like it, if I don't try it?"
Me: "Nicotine is about as addictive as heroin and cocaine. It is incredibly difficult for most people to quit. Do not use me as an example. I am the exception to the rule. Few people can take it or leave it. Ultimately, there is very little benefit and a huge risk. Don't waste your time with it. Furthermore, you won't know if you like heroin until you try it. Do you think it is wise to try heroin?"
Daughter #2: "Of course not. But that's illegal and it can kill you."
Me: "Indeed. So one of them is illegal and both of them can kill you. Have you ever wondered why one is illegal and the other is a product that can be purchased almost anywhere?"
Their interest began to wane when I started on the politics, and then the conversation naturally went on another tangent to a completely different subject. They had heard whatever they needed to hear on the subject, for now.
Neither of them had a clue that I was mildly "medicated" at the time. They aren't quite ready to know that, yet. Am I lying to them? I dunno. Just doing my best.
They're smart girls. They'll self-correct for any of my shortcomings. As I tell them, "nobody's perfect - especially me."

Background music during the conversation:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Indeed. That's not far from the truth at all, IMO. They haven't discovered "Soma" yet, so in the meantime just let everyone self-medicate with alcohol. However, anything that instigates a higher understanding of existence, and thereby a better understanding of politics, religion, etc. and their respective roles in the oppression of human spirit on this planet - well, that simply cannot be tolerated. It is counter-productive and does not benefit the CEOs.
Yes they have , it is just known as prescription opioid's . And it does
benefit the CEO's (big pharma).
I've noticed after mandatory health coverage , they give it out like
candy to anyone (since they are all insured now).
States that legalize for recreation will cash in on that "self medication"
of the "herd" , as well.
The CEO will just be a medical MJ provider instead of the
usual pharma deal.
And once they are all "soma'ed" , it becomes a further medical condition
(addiction). Same drug dealin' doctor that runs the "pill mill" also runs
the treatment clinic - that is what I see down here. BIG $$$$ !

The way I see it, you can teach kids most things, but common sense eludes some of them, no matter what.
Eat pot brownies at a party? Sure. Go for it.
Eat pot brownies at school, and do it right in front of your teacher? No, you bumbass!
Give her half of your pot brownie when she asks for some? Double NO! dumbass! Just eat it yourself and let her think you are a jerk. You are!
Cute.Neither of them had a clue that I was mildly "medicated" at the time.
I watched Dr Nutt last night, his interview with Howard Marks and the New Zealand presentation. Of course it is enlightening, but sad too.
Funny that a psych Dr is name Nutt 🙂 He is a fine Dr, I wish many Dr's would be as straight forward and well informed/experienced as he is.
Like OS states, many Dr's are just pill pushers these days.
To sum it all up, the world is not a kind place and people's opinions get in the way of logic and facts.
Cheers folks
My guess: Dog + Truck
Your reference to dog + truck was something much more macabre in my brain. I see it now. It you look at it differently, it is truly grotesque. I can see a happy dog now. Thanks.

Yes, I noticed that hint of disgust. Sorry to have caused that vision.
In these here parts, I see dogs ripping along with all parts flapping in the wind nearly every day.

I had this exact same progression of thoughts about that pic. Me see happy dog now too.
