Weed and music

To bring this back to the subject of weed and music (rather than weed or music, or so many other things...

Ones and Zeros

There's a black hole pulling me in
I slowly bend till I see the back of my own sins
I stole my soul from myself now I wonder

Wonder - is there somebody with a perfect plan
That goes boom when it's stamped and we could understand
How the gods of old used to clap their hands to make thunder

So we're clapping and we're laughing like it was so absurd
In the future we'll be laughing at who we were right now
As man plays god with the land that he plunders

To the one unknown no one can know nor see
That's resistant to greed
If we listen to time after time, time can never go under

There's this vine trying to climb
Through the window into my life
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
There's this wine trying to find
Its way from the bottle into my mind
In my mind
In my mind
In my mind

And so this vine is trying to climb
Through the window into my life
To bring me symmetry
And memories of a backlit breeze
Back into a dream on the ground
Looking up at the sun coming down

Into a world of boys and girls
Are holding handheld devices
While they're eating and they're sleeping
And they're dreaming of the prices
We'll be paying down the line
When the ice melts maybe it will turn to wine

And all the greatest of the heroes started jumping from the books
They started wearing ones and zeros
Looking more and more like crooks
They stole the sunlight from the future
Took a sip, drained half the glass, and put it back

And a lot of people like to have a feast
Not so many could stomach the killing
Lot of traffic on the streets, so who's really doing all the drilling
Keep on filling what can never be full
My imagination has got a hold on me

There's this vine trying to climb
Through the window into my life
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
There's this wine trying to find
Its way from the bottle into my mind
In my mind
In my mind
In my mind

- Jack Johnson
We listen to a ton of JJ around our house. My wife and daughters fell in love with his music when we watched the "Curious George" movie. Now we have all his albums, of course. While he's not always my first choice, he's grown on me a lot. The above song is probably my favourite.

The Vine is whatever you think it is. I know what I think. 🙂

At first, many many years ago, when my "evil" lil' sis got me buzzed for the first time, I noticed the stereo system that was on...the soundstage seemed to open up. This effect was prominent for the first few years, much less so now. off & on usage thru the years.
Yes, those magnificent "ideas" we all seem to have while stoned. As an experiment, I wrote down in as much detail as possible one of those grand ideas. Returning to the writings later, I couldn't connect the dots on the thought processes. What I did find out when I could retrace my train of thought, ...it was missing some key components, or had some illusion based turning points. The upshot? It doesn't work...no great "insights", just a glossing over of key points.
A few "journeys" chasing white rabbits,...and some others...but Pot for music??? Doesn't bring on the effect as it once did.

No way! You had Target AND the Devo hats in 1980? I would have driven down fast from West Palm if I had known that. That's Miami Dade for ya....

Not Miami Dade. I moved to Broward in 1973. The Broward Mall opened in 1978 and Target opened on an out parcel a year or two later.

I believe that the pots came from Target, but I could be wrong about that. There was no Walmart in south Florida at the time, but it could have been K-Mart or Gold Triangle. I got my vinyl at Gold Triangle or Peaches.

Devo might have released Whip It in 1980, but MTV didn't exist until late 1981, and many cable systems didn't carry it for a few years. Our neighborhood didn't have cable, but I had built my own satellite dish in 1980. I remember that MTV was pretty boring for the first year or two since there were only a few music videos.

Several of my friends and I would pile into the car, and drive over to my house for lunch. We would watch MTV and maybe spark one up. We also had a tape of the Blues Brothers movie in the VHS machine. That movie is best watched after smoking a fattie!

One of the guys came to work with a Devo hat, so a lunch time run to the store resulted in several people with red flower pots on their heads that afternoon. Motorola is about a half mile from the Broward Mall, so it likely was Target.

That was when work was fun. They added a room to the cafeteria, stuck a juke box in it, and named the room "The Casbah" so we could "Rock the Casbah."

I think that carcinogens are overthunk sometimes- smoking any burning leaf along with paper, puts tar in your lungs, makes you cough (if you have healthy lungs and haven't suppressed the cough reflex with practice), and is generally an irritation that has to be expelled. Is that a carcinogen, or just unhealthy? Who cares- my point is simply that there are better methods of partaking- no reason to inhale burning chlorophyll and cellulose and whatnot in that which you utilize, if you're going to go that route. It's an easy thing to filter out the working bits and ditch the less useful parts, if that's what your goal is.

But I want to Twist a big Blunt man haha, some flavor etc haha

Or really no replacement for a nice Bong hit etc haha

It's been years since I burnt down man...yeah I do kinda miss it, For me yeah I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

I'd love to try a vaporizer sometime; that makes all kinds of sense. But I got nothin' to put in it... :crying: It's a shame too, because right now my system sounds a lot like it used to when I was high, except I'm not! I wouldn't mind filling in the last box in this truth table:

Condition: Straight :cop: | Not 😎
Pre-Upgrade: ...| 0 | 1 |
Post-Upgrade: ..| 1 | ? |

Thinking I may need an overflow flag, heh.

After years worth of doing other rather more productive things, the strains of stuff out there has gotten progressively more & more potent, so, ..be gentile on yourself...if your so inclined. It will be familiar to you, but chances are, it won't do it for ya', as it once did. Time has a strange way of giving you a new prospective... on all things.

Anyone interested in an objective overview of the history of LSD, I would highly recommend watching "Hofmann's Potion". It is a Film Board of Canada documentary that is very objective and thorough, IMO. So cool that the Canadian Government funded it. This would never happen in Canada today. So sad.
.

My friend, Erika Dyck, wrote a couple of books on the subject. Click on the "publications" link in the right hand side list. Erika Dyck . College of Arts and Science . University of Saskatchewan

Ah, OK. I don't remember Target from way back then. But right, no Wally World in South Florida then.

I don't remember the exact release date, would have to Google it. Circa 1980. I worked for the cable company then and got free cable. Showtime was brand new and we carried it, HBO might have existed, not sure. MTV I do not remember. By 1981 I had moved to London, where it was still 1961, technology wise.
