Yes number 18 arrived well in Germany .....🙂

I made a quick and dirty install and a few seconds were enough to say that warp has a very special sound that I have not heard in this way before.....even though I only heard with low levels not to disturb my wife studying today.
Of course I will occupy longer with different music tomorrow .......

At any case incredible detailed.
I only heard this similar when I connected my CD-Player without attenuator directly to the amp and hearing at high levels.

Somebody wrote "a peaceful sound...." that is true. Too peaceful? I wii see....
I always look for the balance of melody and rhythm instruments, I can not endure the prevailing of one group of instruments ......this balance is very good and the spatial image is very fine.
My only sorrow at the moment is, is the sound to sweet, is there enough attack?

See you later alligator....

Hi Blues, 😀

I cranked it up! ( I had to look at google for the expression...🙂)

With loud volume levels it has the same marvelous definition and placing of instruments in the room. Going back to a passive, a TKD pot, definition and room was much worse. The DACT pre had no chance at all, even worse than the TKD alone.

The volume solution you created works perfect, it is a pleasure to regulate the volume!
One problem surprised me, all my knobs did not fit. The 6 mm were to small ( your pot has 6,35 mm), quite unusual in Europe, and the 7 mm rotary knobs were to big.

I looked for a good looking knob and found only very ugly small scientific knobs. Were did you get your knobs from?

But back to the sound......the only small negative point I met was a smaller upper bass compared to TKD and my UGS in my system. I give you an example.....

I heard a record where John McLaughlin plays with a tabla player, the high tones of the tabla are perfect....explosive from the hard side of the instrument, but the deeper tones produced with the full hand clapping on the instrument an changing the color by pressing the other hand on the skin, these darker tones sounded too flat or did not develop in the right way.

Conclusion I will try to find out what happened.... At any case I will keep the warp in the system, maybe I will play a bit with B1 buffer before or behind, because it darkens the sound a bit in my perception........!

At the moment I use a simple PSU. What are the advantages in your ears with batteries?

Just follow the warp line!🙂

Thank you for your honest description both ways. I know it's not going to be perfect for all the unique system setups out there and I know I won't have a perfect solution for each. But it is something so simple and so musical to my ears without the need for more preamplification and logic seems to point me to this solution all the time.

I am not familiar with the live sound and nuances of tabla hand drums but I have a couple of recorded tabla/dholak performances. Both are Eric Clapton DVDs, "Concert for George" at the Royal Albert Hall and "Crossroads Guitar Festival" in Dallas, TX. I'll give them a listen again tonight but I remember the percussive sound to really give a great tempo that nicely interweaves with the rhythms of the sitar and all the other Indian instruments. John McLaughlin also plays on one set of the Dallas fest with an electric guitar.

I was listening last night to Mark Knopfler's "Kill To Get Crimson" and his semi-baritone used to be boring but is actually quite artistically very musical and engaging...and Nat King Cole just melts my heart.

I find battery power to have a calmer and more composed presentation of the music overall. My rectified AC supply though is just my work bench supply.

Oh yes, the pot has a 1/4-inch shaft so look for a knob with 0.251 inch shaft hole. Mine is from DIYHifi Supply which I had to drill out to fit. TrungT used this on his build...450-1755 Eagle Plastic Devices Knobs & Dials

Thanks Trung! I have that calculator on my Favorites...😉

generg,
Well it was an evening of World music for me, specifically East Indian music. George Harrison brought to western conciousness the beauty of the sitar and tabla, and was one of the great collaborators with eastern Indian artists who were highlighted on the "Concert for George" tribute conducted by Anoushka Shankar (Ravi's daughter).

Great music with some exotic looking instruments and the accompanying sounds they produce. Describing the tabla hand/finger drums with 3 types featured in the concert -the 2 prominent ones are on the floor in front of the drummer. The smaller one is mostly hit with flattened fingers and produces a "tom tom tom" sound that follows the beat of the music. The bigger one is mostly hit also with the fingers but with the tips hitting vertically onto the drum skin while the heel of the hand is resting on the skin...this produces a "whoop" sound that undulates into harmonics. I hope that's a good description -is this supposed to be the sound live? The 3rd one is held on the lap sideways with both ends hit with the hands. I think the 2nd drum sound is what you are missing or describe as flat? These drums are not loud with fingers, which can be when hit with a full hand, but are easily discernable with all the Indian instruments playing including a western string orchestra. I was able to follow their beat and are not lost in the mix.

On the guitar fest dvd, John McLaughlin plays "Tones for Elvin Jones" and guess what? The tabla player from the "...George" concert is also featured. In the din of the Pearl drum kit and John's electric guitar these hand drums play along in their own space and beautifully contributed.

Both DVDs are highly recommended...:warped:
