I built a pair of BIBs. Immensly pleased with them but cant vouch for how they compare to other enclosures

Hello Bo
Have you posted the box dimensions and details here?
How do you find the bass? Are you running them full range?

I've found it really good at 10ltrs closed, particularly good in the ikea spheres, fwiw. It's good value for money.

Hi. I had a thread goin but unfortunatly mistyped the headline. Heresa direct link with dimensions + some pix: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/178811-tang-band-w6-1611-bibs.html
Bass is awesome, drops off around 30 Hz, plays effortlessly and musical

Are you using that with a subwoofer then? I was thinking of some enclosure that would be OK full range

Wow, 30hz from the BiBs? That's very tempting! I'm planning on building the horn Henkjan recommended for the W5s in the next month or so. The BiBs are unfortunately a little big for my space. 🙂 I'll certainly post my thoughts on these speakers once they're finished.

By recommendation from this forum, I think it was Godzilla. I dropped the Fs by a factor of 0.707 and then fudged off a few centimeters so the cab resonance is around 44 Hz. Oddly enough they fall off dramatically below 30 Hz. No idea if theyre supposed to do that. Maybe its a room resonance thing
Theyre big but the footprint is small and being tall plain boxes they dont scream for attention like a more elaborately shaped speaker maybe would

Hi Bo,
I looked up your dimensions but couldn't see if they were external or internal. Have you updated them as in last post? Could you maybe give us the current internal and external measurements and location of speaker unit on the baffle?
You have got some of us interested here!

I think they were external. I did the math in Godzillas BIB spreadsheet. Pic is posted. My internal baffle is made of 30 mm styrofaom, hence the added depth. I forgot to mention the baffle step EQ it requires. I correceted in the Mac thats my music/film centre. Screen dump included

30hz from the BiB is tempting, but I think I'm pretty much committed to making the horn that Henkjan suggested. I'll be getting to work on it as soon as I can and I will post impressions once I'm done. I have more detailed plans drafted in sketchup if anyone wants them, although I converted the values to inches. 🙂
Henkjan, maybe you can tell me (us) how precise the dimensions of that horn need to be. Since the design you posted is not super detailed, I'm not always certain that I have the dimensions just right, and I'm also running a risk rounding the dimensions to the nearest eighth of an inch. Is this a bad idea? Also, take the placement of the driver, which in your plan is centered at EXACTLY 898mm from the base. Will rounding that to 90cm make much of a difference?

henkjan knows best, but i'd just put clamps on the sides and try lots of stuffing choices to see.
the 'box' sounds will obviously be different when finished compared to when clamped, but you can allow some for that in your head 🙂
i almost built those, too. thanks for sharing. good work--listening fun is close!

I did it like this:Audio-TECH
After listening I stuffed it even more; didnt like the slightly "hollow" sound.
After the speaker broke in, it was better, but the high frequency range was never satifying to me. I applied a helper tweeter, and that did the trick.
A little wile later I switched to the alpair 10, and that was a lot better, but even there I put a helper (ribbon) tweeter at the back.
I have to say that my tube amp sounded very smooth, but after changing the JJ 2a3-40's to TJ300B/2.5 it sounded brighter, so I could remove the tweeters...
greetings, Paul

Almost finish ,only side panels left.
But not sure about the inside arrangement.
Should i change anything ?
maybe a bit less behind the driver... but that can easily be adjusted later

Yes, that is paint; its dark blue metallic hammerite: Hammerite - Welkom
Its for (rusted) metal normally, but I like the surface structure on wood. I applied it with a roller.
