Visaton NoBox...is this for real!?!?

FWIW, I get ~18.7-19.06" depending on how I calculate it, so it's probably accurate enough for all but the anal retentive. Still, I've been told that others I've calculated line up well with Svante's 'The Edge'?, so comparing them seems a reasonable way to confirm it.

A 24" baffle 'system' (24" side on the floor) will be - 3 db @ 90 Hz
IF Fs = 90 Hz AND Qts = 2
Everyone seems to more or less omit the driver parameters when
discussing OB's
For the easiest and most robust OB calculator :
( one more time 🙂 )
Get BoxPlot or another program that allows a first order H.P. insertion
Set for sealed cabinet with minimum Alpha (infinite baffle)
Set the 1 rst order H.P. to 360 / bafflewidth ( in feet )
The supposed prevalent ' comb filtering ' used by Linkquist, King, et. al.
is simply not (or marginally at most), for practical purposes, there in
other than an anechoic environment.

No, no placebo effect. If the driver is nominally 8 ohms, then an 8 ohm resistor in series ~doubles Qts.

Thanks Greg, Yes after taking it out and listening and then putting it back in again it certainly was making a difference. And for the better no less. They are much smoother without the laser type HF driving directly through your gourd and making your teeth hurt.. I also came up with treatment along the edge of the baffle, First I doubled up the baffle to 1.5" of ply then wrapped the edge with the foam pipe insulation. It sounds pretty listenable now just gotta do the other speaker now as I only got one done today.

Is this calculator :
mh-audio.nl - Home
Anywhere's near accurate ?
Yep that looks like the calculator, whether it's accurate or not IDK but I would imagine it is, and I agree with Greg, it sounds like a higher QTS speaker with the resistors in the line. I attached my resistors around the cap. seemed to work killer. Got rid of that god awful piercing HF but still sounds clear as a bell. 🙂 It was a win win. 🙂

Yeah, my main piece of test gear is a ~ 50 yr old 'el cheapo' 25 ohm pot I use to dial in the desired tonal balance, then measure its resistance and either use a fixed value carbon comp resistor or an array of them to get the desired resistance, power handling.

This one is probably good enough: 25-Ohm 3-Watt Rheostat - RadioShack.com

Ofttimes this drops the extreme HF too much, so add a by-pass cap to let some of it through unattenuated.

Hi there,I just wanted to inform you that I've assembled the kit tonight. It's really better than my expectations.I don't see any irritating problem with high frequency. But I see that this kit should be used with powerfull amps. My amplifier is 100 watt SS and it gives great bass.Later I am planning to add any ribbon tweeters but I dont want use active crossovers and few amps.. We will see..

Can I do the Nobox with a smaller 8 incher? I have a phillips for this.

This is then a 2 way system with a tweeter on top. I have to go not lower then 80 Hz because I have a T-TQWT for bas what will go to dipoles with 18 inchers, still I did like these boxless bas the most of all types incl tapped horn or normal horn.

regards

kees
