Visaton B80

HornTube,
First, Visaton no longer claim their products are all "Made In Germany". In the contrary, fashion brand Prada continues to do so, even after being reported on headline news.

Second, I am neither a nationalist or nor a racist and I did not try to distribute any propaganda around. Please stop accusing. I was just upset by your biased accusation on all Apple users. I must admit I am a Mac user but everyone in the IT industry does what Apple does. The news is focused on Apple on purpose as that is going gain more readers' attention. Just trying to tell you that no matter what brand you're using, your electronics are likely to be made by the very same factory by the very same workers treated the very same way as those who made Apple electronics.

I know you care about the how the Chinese workers are treated, and so am I. There is nothing much we can do though. I wish there is a way to put forward stricter labor laws but it's all up to the officials.

You are simply wrong in all cases!

1. I see no reason why some cannot compare a FR driver with another FR driver? Your analogy is illogical at the utmost.:whacko:

2. What has the B200 to do with "vintage sound signature"??? They are sounding utterly different than Lowther or Saba Greencones or vintage Philips FR or vintage Pioneer drivers.

3. There are more OB TangBand 8" and Alpair projects than with the B200! The TB and the Alpairs are suitable for OB.

1 - your sweeping generalisations are ridiculous. Let us, for a moment, compare one amplifier to another. You know full well that this isn't always a fair comparison, but lets go ahead anyway because you already have.
As Boris quite rightly pointed out - you could use the analogy of a valve amp and a solid state amp. One is made to sound "nice" - meaning plenty of low order distortion, a smooth presentation with little emphasis on the frequency extremes. The other amp is designed to measure well. Very low distortion, a true precision device that will reveal the flaws in anything you happen to run through it.
Each will have its followers. You'd never persuade one that the other's right, though.

2 - you speak of these various speakers as if you've recently auditioned the lot.
Please, tell us which tracks you used, details of amplification, source, and listening room. Were you on axis, how were the speakers positioned in the room? What about cabinets - were they equally well made, suitably braced, and baffle step suitably compensated for?

3 - I think I'd beg to differ.
The B200 has been around much longer than either of the other two. Amongst the German forums, they've been well-received, with many people using them on an open baffle.

Soooo all that noise and still no-one has an opinion on the B80, thanks for de-railing the thread super hard HornTube.

The B80 has jsut come up for sale on europe-audio, and I'd love some real opinions from people that have tried them and could possibly compare to the Mark Audio range.

And fwiw my input on the whole "Made in China" issue, I'd much rather my stuff be made in china where if they get it wrong then the worker will face consequences as opposed to England where if a worker screws something up it still gets shipped and the worker keeps his job - and all for a ten fold increase in manufacturing cost.

I have only conected B 80 without the box and it sounded very nice. I think it could be used for some nice small OB with extra sub 🙂

The look of driver is very nice too so I realy like it, unforunately I had them for only a short time 🙁

When I started in this hobby, I always think that higher dB it will better. But as time goes by, I found that is not true.... Now I would look for drivers that having 84-88dB, make the "best" enclosure for it and call it the day....

^Is it? I don't know.... As now I have my car setup with all of them at 88-90dB.... But I think for car using loud drivers are ok, since it needs to overcome some wind noise.... At home, it will be another story... Or can I say it depends to room's volume also?

After months of waiting, at last B80 hit Malaysian's shore.... My initial review on this pair of fullrange are "yuk", I can see on the magnet of the glue exposed... Pretty bad build I would say, considering this is a high end driver from Visaton. I have a 12" high end woofer from Visaton, TIW300 which is really sexy to my eyes.... A surprise for this....
Anyway, as soon as I hook up to my amp and play it under free air, again, another surprise as it is really a sweet sounding pair of speakers... Don't judge a book by the look....

Some photos... Hope other location's B80 are not like this....
