Rebuilding open baffle subs in the study room. Its based on 15" car subs, on the left is how it looks without cover, lots of bracing to prevent baffle shaking. We want only the membrane to move.
The cover on the right side is finished, it will get paint job later. The cover is not touching the baffle. There is 1mm gap. Still it helps significantly to reduce side cancellation.
Work in progress, mainly cosmetics, it sounds great already.
I am thinking what to do about front grill to make it look like ordinary box...

Testing new AN39 in the main system. Great control over the speakers.
I am using newly finished speakers (not the main ones), with two 6fe200 wired for 16 ohm as two 8 ohms in series, no filter, up to 5kHz. For easy load for classA amps and low distortion. Then big HiVi planar, then fostex super tweeter above 10kHz.
Sounds good. But i have a question.
Since i am taking two 6fe200 all the way to 5kHz, which is pretty high, is there any interference happening? Two sources, you know.
My main speakers are based on one midbass only, and planars, seems to be more coherent.
I could try to make the top 3.5 way instead of 3 way, plus sub.
Otherwise it does not sound bad. I just want perfection. Whats your opinion?

Aaah, much better. Coherence, pinpoint imaging, soundstage restored.
Instead of two 6fe200 midbasses working the same range, i made the top 3.5 way. Lower midbass covers 150Hz to about 900Hz, second order with 1.4mH in series and 10uF parallel on the coil terminal.
Upper midbass no crossover all the way to 5kHz. Then hivi and from 10kHz fostex, as before.
Significant improvement, almost like main speakers. Well, they are 8ohm now, still good load for classA amps.

@adason, can you provide more details on this amp? I have a few pairs of LD1014 I haven’t used yet and your implementations with these power JFETs are very interesting! I know next to nothing about tubes, but I actually have a couple of 12AU7s as backups for my TubSuMo build that’s gathering dust. Two new projects. One is with lu1014d, single ended classA, with ~1.5A, stabilized with el34 heater. Sounds great. No measurements done yet.
Lately I’m finding I do not need more than a a few watts in my listening spaces and I’m enjoying the simpler circuits with good outputs.

That little amp has pretty much nothing to do with tubes. Filament is used instead of a resistor. Low level tube would not do.
Amp was only good for watt or two.
So ideal as headphone amp. Had significant second harmonic.

Hi adason,
Can you make a schematic of your modification on XY LM3886 amp to the conversion for a transconductance amp in your Posts 64-68, because I have difficulties to understand your text, english is not familiar for me?
Thanks in advance

Have you done the modification? It takes just few minutes!Hi adason,

Not yet, I'm making a LM1875 AMP point to point to try a chipamp. I suppose I can do these mods on this AMP too. I only made tube amps and preamps, and it's easier for me to work with tubes
Adamson, I agree but I'm curious! I don't Hope to have better sound quality with chipamps than with tubes...
