Hi Sze & sklimek,

circuits on my hand was my friend email to me. Looks was came from the website that U post in the forum.
I had one question, since my friend need to repair his ML-2.
If I prepare a same PCB for him to repair, did any diyers had interest to test with me.

So.... I can save some PCB ordered price for both interested items price.

thx

Hi Thomas, I could not get to it - test a pcb, I have too many projects that need completion - beautiful project though I hope it takes off.

Help!!! My DAC stopped working

Hi all

My DAC, based on Thomas's V2 kit, suddenly stopped working this evening.

I have check all the power supplies pins. They are still OK. I have no scope so cannot check the signal.

Normally the LED light up when SPDIF signal is fed to the DAC but now no more. I guess the CS8414 or the pulse transformer could be dead.

Could Thomas or some one give me some advice? :bawling:

I have no way to check the pulse trans because the winding has very low resistance --> cannot be measured with the multimetter that I have.

I will probably replace the CS8414 and see if it work. I would be very very regret if this cannot be fixed. I 've spent a lot of time and money upgrading the DAC. It was sounding really good before the breakdown.

I would appreciate it if you can give me the V3 PCB. I can arrange someone to collect it from you. Please advise if it's OK for you.

parallel AD1865 with SM5843 digital filter DAC,

hi,

I was prepare this dac, any comment of that??

since this dac can share my 1541a ver.3 DAC USB receiver & signal selection board.
I can low cost to prepare for it.

for the digital filter, prefer choose NPC SM5843 Good & reasonable price. parallel running for one pair AD1865 chips.

any comment!!!

pls advise.

thx

hi beecan,

actually this is my friend's design. He's a digital engineer of japan SXXX in hong kong. He use full set audionote equipment longer time. Since he hope to prepare a parallel or balance ( I need to versify ) to hear the performance of this 1865. Audionote use this tube with 6111 tube for their DAC. Yesterday I had a tea with him & told him that now I had a small private assemble team in china. He not need to private print the PCb & test. I can prepare to him. He only need to debug will be Ok. Signal selection PCB of the ultimate ver.3 a can multi share with the Ultimate 1541a ver.3 & 1865. this can lower the total testing cost.
so I will do it shortly. detail will inform to share the experience.

OK.

thx
thomas

When I was testing the reclocking unit, I managed to ruin one CS8414. The symptoms where the same as yours. I replaced it with another 8414 but mounted it on a 8412 adapter using IC-sockets on the mainboard. This way it is easy to replace the 8414 if it dies out.

Hi bohrok2610

thanks for your advice. You are right. I recplaced the CS8414 with a CS8412 last night and the DAC works again. It seems to sound different with cs8412 but I am trying to figure out whether the sound is better or worse. CS8412 seems to sound clearer but a tad bright so I am still not very sure which is better.

The original cs8414 is made in Korea while this cs8412 is Taiwan made.

hi fred,

the ad1865 parallel DAC. I will only produce 8 sets only, on more matching chips.

PCM56 if I can get all the K gade chips I will let U know. will be the continous project. But I still advise use tube buffer with Pre-amp output ( cathode follower with pre-amp OPT).

any comment.

thx

thomas

Hi Thomas,

That would be nice. I will watch out for this planned kit project... With OPT there is also the option of grounded cathode circuit. Maybe there should be 2 options of OPT circuit to suit the diyer's taste and system, one cathode follower the other grounded cathode. Just a suggestion. Thanks.
