Preamp or driver CCS?
I tried a few of these little guys several years ago for a driver application because I had a bunch. I then found the 5842 which I also had a bunch of. Well I (and a few others) talked too much about those and they got stupid expensive. My stash of the 5842 is getting thin.
The 6AK5's have been sitting around the warehouse ever since looking kind of lonely. I keep finding more of them, loose, unboxed and untested, so I keep dumping them in the same box. There is at least 50 pounds of them now.
I also have a box full of 6AU6's, 6AG5's and several other RF - IF amplifier pentodes. There are several hundred 6J6's too. I tried them all briefly several years ago and haven't looked back. If I remember right the 6EJ7 triode wired impressed me the most.
I have found several more RF type triodes, tetrodes, pentodes, and even a hexode, so I plan on rigging up some sort of test jig to test them all. I would like to find a tube for clean low level gain (phono stage) and a good driver that can put out some voltage.
The time has come to unload the stuff that I will never use. The landlord keeps raising the rent.

"7543...iron curtain junk "
Uh-Oh, I ordered 12. I'll have to see if they are made with barb wire fence pins or bailing wire grids now.
"The landlord keeps raising the rent."
How about getting a shipping container or two to put them in. Put it in the back yard and build a deck on top. If you get two of them, space them apart so you can park your car in-between under the deck.

We bought a few of these at work for storage and the price is a lot better than you think. Around $2700 for one delivered. Seems like they should be worth that much in scrap prices alone 😕
"Around $2700 for one delivered."
They should be a lot cheaper delivered in Florida. Last time I checked here, they were around $1600. The aluminum ones are probably more expensive.

RE: shipping containers
We use them at work for storage outside (you need it when your audio equip inventory is a little over 47,000 pieces) For $100 a month each. Cheap.

6AU6...microphone.
Yes, I have found some microphonic ones, and some that were quiet. My best microphone is a Motorola branded 6SN7. You can talk to it and hear your voice in the speakers. If you set the volume just right it gives a reverb like sound. A little more volume and you get feedback.

The code enforcement nazis in this city would never allow it. In the 30 years that I have lived here I have pissed them off a few times. This caused my satellite dish, ham radio antenna, and even my kids swing set to be banished. They made it very clear that they had the power and will to levy $200 per day fines for non compliance with their whims, enforced with a lien against your house. Their actions since hurricane Wilma has forced the foreclosures to start 4 years ago in this neighborhood. There are now 2 or 3 on every block.
A friend in a more remote area had 2 or 3 steel containers in his back yard. He had obtained them from a scrap dealer at Port Everglades for a few hundred dollars each. As civilization encroached, his containers were banished as well.

Semi-OT and I believe Florida has a PRB-1 law on the books (and I'm sure this was probably some time ago), but amateur radio antennas MUST be given reasonable accommodation by law these days. It usually ends in a compromise of some sort, from what I've read. The things to look forward to when becoming a homeowner.

Too bad. Maybe could put some cedar shingle siding on them. Or put one of those canvas carport thingies over it and tell your neighbors you have your camper and 40 ft yacht stored inside.
Hmmm, now there's an idea. Must be some damaged yachts around from the hurricanes, just get one of those and park it in the driveway. Tube ballast. Could christen the boat "Noah's VT ARC".

They do, and I quoted it when fighting for my 12 foot dish, which was used as a ham radio (EME) antenna. They replied that it didn't apply and I would be welcome to start a legal fight. My lawyer quoted a valuable piece of information to remember "A lawyer on staff always beats a lawyer on retainer." That was about 15 years ago, and I haven't been on the air since, but I still have a valid ham license.

There are strict regulations about campers and boats in your yard. They do seem to be rather selectively enforced however. After my last confrontation with the Mayor ended with him threatning my arrest (over the ham antenna), I have been a good boy. He has been subsequently disbarred and removed from office. Two previous mayors were indicted by a federal grand jury, one served time, got out, and ran for re-ellection. Still managed to get 40% of the vote. We live in a corrupt city.

OK, I guess you're just going to have to face the music.
What's the best tube amplifier you can come up with to bribe the Mayor?

My suspicious neighbours asked what and why I put on my roof, I said "Fire extinguishing sprinlkers", and they were satisfied. But actually it is an evaporating cooling system that when it is hot measures roof's resistance so if it is dry it opens a water valve until the roof gets wet. I hope there are no laws yet against sprinklers on roofs, right?

When I was a young lawyer, an old timer gave me a valuable piece of information: "Fight horsecrap with bigger horsecrap."
We had a few fights around here after PRB-1 came out, but I don't think I have even had a phone call over an antenna issue in a decade. 😎
Government is a bully with a lot of resources. Too often, they act like it.

The mayor is no longer the mayor.
OK, I guess you're just going to have to face the music.
With all of the empty houses in the area that are in disrepair, I have fallen off of their radar screen and I intend to keep it that way. I don't even have a TV antenna now.

That is exactly how my lawyer explained it.
"Fight horsecrap with bigger horsecrap."
She also explained to me just how much that would cost. I punted.

All too true. Often, they're wrong, and just don't care. You have to use your money to fight them. They use everybody's money to fight you. Not what most people would consider fair.
I'm lawyered up over an easement condemnation right now, and by the time I pay my lawyer, appraiser, maybe an engineer, and all the other incidentals, it will probably be so much that even if I win, I still lose. All of it could be avoided if they would just act fairly. They win either way - they'll get their easement and if it costs them more, it's not even their money.

Back on topic, I feel that I am getting a grip on the illness. I haven't bought any tubes at the last few hamfests and actually sold down some inventory. I put in a parts order to AES last night and the only tubes on it were four (4) more of the GE 6DG6/6W6GT's.

This tube sale is pretty impressive. It's a shame the Aussie dollar has plummeted and returned them to near full price.
Also, just a heads up to George at tubelab, I have emailed you regarding buying one of your pc boards.
Cheers,
Callum.

Around here they call that "doing state time".

I can't answer Tubelab email from work, and I haven't been getting home until late for the past month. So far the forum posts during lunch time and after 5 PM are still acceptable. I catch up on emails on the weekends.
