TPA3116D2 Amp

I am about to send off a Digi-Key order so I can begin modding my two stock YJ boards that I have been using for about 9 months now. A friend and a family member after hearing them want me to make them one but do not think I will have the time to make my mods and theirs.

So my question: is the consensus still that the Ybdz green board sounds the best in its stock form? Or is there another I missed in the thread?

I concur that IME, the YBDZ sounds great stock. (Mine are still bone stock - although I have parts to mod them, have not had enough reason to mess with it). If you have $50, get the SMSL TPA3118 like Von Ah did and you have a finished boxed amp that sounds great stock.

If I were to mod my YBDZ's it will be in this order:

1. qnty 2 x 330uF 25V Pansonic SEPF OSCON's for power rails, 470uF 35V Panasonic FC's for power supply input decoupler.
2. 330pF and 10R bootstrap snubbers

That's it!

I followed von ah and picked up the SMSL TPA3118 finished box. This is my first Class D amp - sounds OK out of the box to my ears. Less "musical" than the '80s vintage Denon solid state integrated that it replaced. Plenty of clarity. Still running with the supplied 12V brick. Case does not even get warm. Slight power-off click, but no thumps. DC offset is around 1mV. I'm impressed for such a small and efficient form-factor.

Try a 19 volt laptop brick. It will make it more musical as you say. I think there is just more power and the higher voltage reduces HD.

Not sure if there is a consensus; someone asked the same question a few posts back, one response was given:

Best stock appears to be audiobah or hiamplifier. Easily found on eBay.

I haven't heard either of those, but I do have a Ybdz ("Wiener") board, and think it sounds really good in stock form.

For a stock board, you might want to take into consideration the target speaker impedance, which would imply different output filter component values. The Ybdz board's output filter is optimal for 8 ohm speakers.

I think (just judging by pics) the Audiobah board's output filter is optimal for 4 ohm speakers.

Not sure about hiampmini. Note this board is sold as a solder it together yourself kit, but I think he might (?) also offer a pre-built board. You could probably email him and inquire about output filter component values.

Yes, these will be for 8ohm speakers, so the Ybdz would probably be best, and for $15 shipped, it's a no-brainer. Thanks for the input!

2. 330pF and 10R bootstrap snubbers

I need a some clarification.
The 330 pf and 10R are in series. ?
You connect the 330pf to the + terminal of the bootstrap caps and the 10R to the ground of the board.
Is this correct.?

will a half watt 10 R and a 100 V caps do for this application ?

thank in advance

If you look back in the thread a short way you will find a circuit diagram showing the details you need.

I would be interested for such extension board for channel switching or remote power on off.
The board I made its a simple 4 channel input selection by relays... I attach the schematic I followed for the pcb design. That board is also suitable to use with an arduino board. There are many things one can do with arduino, ad a IR remote, motorized pot, and lcd...
