TPA3116D2 Amp

There aren't too many options for a dac that is powered by the usb port. It actually sounds quite well with the little 3116 out of my macbook. It mellows the shrillness that comes out of the macs 3.5 audio creating a much more detailed and fuller sound. It doesn't compare to a separate dac with it's own power supply but sounds good for this little project.

Finished all component mods, included R/C from PVCC to avcc and cap/diode from gvdd to mute, and sounds very good driving my '78 40W per channel 2-ways using pllxo.

But, not 100% satisfied. Like the simplicity of the YJ blue/black and my HSDZ board, but on one shoulder I have the anti-smd devil whispering in my ear, and on the other the awesome power devil bellowing about the traces!

All I need mention is designs park and Chinese pcb manufacturers on Ali-express!

Apart from the two more mentioned above, have any other mods been tried on here not in the 3116 data sheet that proved beneficial - except obvious component value changes?

re: post 7652
I have taken a closer look at the pins on the dac output and found that the one I identified as 0 is not used. It is trimmed off the jack. So I'm not sure which pins to use.

B (earth) goes to 4or5. If you mix up the other two you only mix up right/left side so no biggy... But 0->L and 3->R. I have actully tried that dac and it sounds decent!

Coupling caps for YJ tpa3116d2

I saw where some guys were using higher value other than 1uf
On input coupling caps so I tried 4.7uf and I get a huge thump at
Power up I assume the guys that are going higher than say 2uf there
Are just leaving units on all the time?
Otherwise it would be very harmful to the speakers to constantly have
That turn on spike any thoughts?

I use 4.7uf on inputs, no thump.

Couldn't tell you myself, as I just have my source plugged into passive preamp then into my amps via pllxo. I always make sure volume of passive preamp is turned right down before both turning on or off. Always have with any system. I then turn the volume up ever so slightly before starting playback.
Now using a liner power source, but didn't have any "thump" with switching "brick" either!

@nitussi Something that a lot of people don't realise is that to get twice the perceived volume you need 10 X the power. Therefore you need a 500W amp to get sound that is perceived as being twice as loud as a 50W amp.

The 100W will give you some headroom so you are less likely to clip, but won't make a huge difference to how loud it sounds.

Tony.

I agree. I don't know much more than that though when it comes to amplifiers.. but what I do know, how to put it up against my TDA7498(also 100x2) and there is no comparison. Doesn't even come close. It does get louder at 2ohm load..but still it doesn't draw the amps that you think it should. Maybe I got a bad one. Would be nice if someone who knows, gets there hands on one.
