TPA3116D2 Amp

The amp works! 🙂

AVCC was not soldered correctly. Everytime I checked with the multimeter I pushed it hard enough to actually make contact so it showed the 12V. As soon as I measured other pins it was left floating. *facepalm*

Thank you very much doctormord, DUG and irribeo, gmarsh!

Each input is biased to 3V, but there should be negligible DC voltage between the two inputs so hooking up a transformer should be fine. If there is a difference in voltage, the current through the transformer secondary would be the difference (probably single digit mV or less) divided by the sum of the two input resistors at the given gain selection.. it's <1uA. You'll be fine.

Thank you!! Have a nice day!

Regards,

Rejoicing with nanonymous! Well, so how does the dug amp sound?
I have had the YJ-danzz for 2 weeks now and have it coupled with a 2-tube preamp. I think I like its sound better than the 35 year old Yamaha integrated amp I used to listen to. The power supply is an old netbook brick outputting 18.5V (dunno the amperage rating). Driving a pair of Tannoy V1i bookshelfs
Question, what does the 2-tube preamp add to the system? I read it is supposed to be "warm" but I don't "hear" what that is. Right now, it's a convenient volume control. ^_^

Thanks for the input, much appreciated ! Reason for asking was the fact that the booster from the appnote mimics the 3116 in efficiency where other solutions like the taoboa item & other cheap boosters appear not to do so judged by the rather hefty heatsinks. I was wondering if anyone here actually did build the booster from the appnote.

Where/how do I get a 2.1 TPA3116 board that has a high pass filter for the stereo channels?

As far as I know, doesn't exist commercially and would be a great project to design a Diy version with variable XO for a nice 2.1 system to use as a FAST with XO from 80Hz up to 300Hz. -24dB/oct active filter preferable. HP in stereo and LP on sub channel.

This is just a few op amps and can be sim'd quite easily with TI's Filterpro software.

I'm considering building a 2.1 board once the weiner and cAMP are done.

Only catch is it's hard to make an adjustable, high-order stereo crossover using anything other than DSP or switched capacitor filters. A 4th order highpass or lowpass has 4 resistors to change the frequency, a stereo crossover with a highpass/lowpass per channel is 16 resistors!

Putting a MiniDSP card in front of a "3 input" amp is probably your best bet...

without measurements even with a dsp it is still just guessing what your acustical crossover will be like.
most of the time you know approximately what the freq-response of your speakers is.
you can simulate an analog active xo that fits your speakers with spice.
you can build that on perf-board and have lots of diy-fun.
if you do not like the sound you have not lost to much money as some opamps, 1/4w resistors and xxx nF caps are not that expensive (and you can still change some parts (values) most of the time or completely start from the beginning and still stay below the cost of a mini-dsp).
but that´s just my noob-approach.

...but then you are bound to a 6db filter which might or might not fit your system.
i´m not sure if an onboard-xo will be that good as every system is different and needs different steepness.
you can´t get much better than with a mini-dsp and some measurements in your room.
but you can have the diy-fun with an analog xo.
i built a two way mono crossover with 24db sallen-key filters (high- and low-pass in both signal paths) with trim pots.
i simulate with lt-spice what might fit, trim the pots, abuse the good ears of my friend, trim the pots again and then solder a new xo if one is needed.
btw: an equalizer works wonders sometimes, too.

I don’t care about having a variable crossover. I just need something that’ll low pass to the sub channel and high pass the stereo channel.

While I could use a miniDSP (which I have one), I can’t find a 3 channel amp, or a 2.1 amp that takes 3 inputs.

I’m *really* surprised that a high pass filter is not available in this 2.1 amp. What’s the point of having a subwoofer channel if it is not offloading the stereo channel of the bass signals? I don’t know of a single commercial 2.1 amp that does not have a high pass filter. It just seems like common sense...
