Which are generally better, the small shielded or the big red inductors on these boards? Also, what are all the small electrolytics on this board for?
Depends on what you consider "better"
Assuming these toroids consist of iron powder, compared to shielded ferrite
+they are cheaper
- often they are lossy, getting warm or hot even in standby
+due to their smooth magnetizing curve the are hardly saturating
And "sound" - I do not expect noticable differences, but never checked that myself.
It confuses me that without the delay circuit to prevent power-on pop there's no problem with stuttering. So without it and a working LS-protection I would be happy again 😀. But I will try the bigger capacitor this afternoon and report back.
I guess that if my psu triggers the overvoltage protection on the chip itself it would trigger it without the delay circuit too. But that's not the case. I only have obvious problems with the delay circuit.
But as I am still searching for an answer I put "add regulator to linear psu" on my todo-list. I think around 21 V as output voltage should be okay.
Quoting my own post but irribeo guessed my psu triggers overvoltage protection. Tried with Meanwell GS90A19 and still got stutters with higher input levels. So overvoltage protection is not the issue.
Will do further ivestigation on this stutter problem when I've got some time.
You may want to resolder the TPA-IC. (It sounds like problems with the BS-caps pad connections to me)
Could be overcurrent protection if output inductors are saturating. It'll be more evident with higher PVCC.

I'll try this. Did not solder smd-parts before but I guess this is the right project to try (I've got the needed tools). Btw. I sent you a message over your website concerning your amps. Quite nice ones 😀.
Thanks. You mainly just reheat the pins one by one with your soldering-iron and the help of flux.
This all must be a joke! 😱
I only buy legit real stuff at Farnell/Digikey/Mouser. Why i ever should buy faked stuff like Panasonic Caps? To support product piracy?
I'm sorry, but this really is big nonsens to me.
I'm out of this.
Well finally there is a little bit of understanding🙂 You tend to suggest that it is total nonsens to replace chinese caps for real good caps. Now you feel replacing real caps for chinese is nonsens, that is a first step. Questions in this thread were about replacing fake or bad performing chinese caps on $6 to $8 chinese ampboards imo, your answers suggested replacing them was nonsens, just a imaginative thing, no real improvement, just leave ampboards totally chinese and enjoy.
You gotta love this thread. 🙂 doctormord cracked me up with his comeback. These little amp boards are starting to bring out the humor. Too much. 🙂
Technically "fake" caps are still capacitors, they're just counterfeitly branded and and likely have nowhere near the quality or performance as the actual manufacturer's parts. Now would that be REAL humor or FAKE humor?
Pete
The analogous humor would be something like:

Oh my oh my, where have this thread gone!!? I'm glad that I bought an tpa3116 amp, would never have known about it if wasnt for threads just like this one. I've apprieciated all the scientific info that especially Doctormord (love that name) contributed with, it's sucha shame that a few other members spread a lot of nonsens and non scientific info. It makes it quite confusing for a newbie like me who is just trying to learn the scientiffic part(not interested in "learning" placebo effects). I have very little to contribute with so maybe I have no right telling you this, but I hope this thread goes back to science and less nonsens, non scientific and kindergarden manners!

It's really about the age old objectivists vs the subjectivity argument.
as much as i respect both guys...
i didn't see any measurements or evidence of blind listening tests.
did anybody measure a modded vs an unmodded china-board?

Measurements? We don't need no stinking measurements! 😉as much as i respect both guys...

Well, there are measurements for the MAX9709 compared to a TA2020 and EMI/EMV measurements for the MAX9709/TPA3132D2.
MAX9708/MAX9709 25W/50W Class-D ? Messungen - #360customs
TPA3132D2 vs. MAX9709 measurements EMI / EMC - # 360customs
Performance measurements for the actual (my own) TPA3132D2 board are in the pipeline.
Sneak attached. (Thanks to alfsch/stromrichter.org)
But these aren't chinese boards at all. (Except the TA2020)
