Three things you can do to make CD players sound better

I am curious, why do ANY mods to a CDP at all?

To my thinking it is overly time consuming, and cost prohibitive.

Very, very good ones are available from makers such as YBA, Audio Refinement, Rega, Jolidia ect. none of the afore mentioned require modifications, esp. the YBA- how do I know?

I own them (or have in the past).

Now, on the other hand, if we were to compare CDP's to say a very good ANALOG 12" source - I wonder what the opinions would then be?

Side by side, a clean record with a good cartridge and TT sounds as good, if not better, then nearly any CDP. But then the same can be said from a digital perspective, that is- To my thinking it is overly time consuming, and cost prohibitive.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Am I missing something?

A guy who lists every piece of commercial gear he owns wants to aks why mod a CDP on a DIY forum.

"Hmmmmmmm......strange...........very strange........I know he is in there now, in the control room, listening to every thing I say..........but I really don't care.

Ohhhhhhh.....Frank Zappa........"

You are visiting the wrong website.

Jocko- what a name.

LOL, as usuall, modders think they know better then those whom design such things.

Try a CDP from YBA, then make your comments, if you comment with out doing such then you are a jadded modder with an axe to grind, or, no ability to save up for, or, make such a fine purchase.

There are a few types of people in the world, those who can, those who try, and those who cant.

As I previously stated- modding a hi-end CDP is like watering a garden while it's raining- PIONTLESS.

Tell me, just what is it you would mod on a YBA CDP? It's face plate color?

This for guys who really are interested in learning. If you want to argue pointless theoretical crap, there are other threads. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Three things I guarantee will improve your sound. Won't cost much, and you will probably learn something new if you try, instead of just sit around and whine.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There ia a fourth rule for DIYers. When you are happy with the sound and reasonably happy with measurements, DO NOT GO FURTHER. You may well make the sound worse!

I have encountered this many times and have had to go back.😀 😀 😀

PIONTLESS.

I have been designing and manufacturing high-end audio gear for around 20 years now.

Translation: I am one of the guys who designs that stuff.

So what are your credentials to question me?

None, I bet.

Jocko

hi Jocko, we all are anxious to know which brands you did design for. Can you lift a tip of the veil please?
OK, I will change my avatar if that helps......... A fat and ugly lady will do??

Point is, I understand you. For a few mods we usually pay under 100 bucks you have to pay many 100's, sometimes 1000+ couse those are the prices out there. Why can we do it so cheap? Not because it's not that good, far from it, maybe it is even better, it's because we do the work ourselves, but the guys like you just can't, so they go pay others.
And that's only one side of the story.
The other is building the stuff not modding the commercial stuff. It's possible to build almost any high-end component for a fraction of the cost of it' commercial equivalent. Most of the time, that is. There are a few guys selling stuff without putting their prices up in the sky, but very few. Most of the times the manufacture price is 1/10 of the selling price. Go figure.

Actually I kinda pity you, but I'd love to see your figure while comparing your system to a diy system that costs far less. 😀

hi alpha_03
I agree on you comparison of CD-sound and LP.
The latter has way more bass-slam as the CD and a clavichord sounds more realistic on LP, even on a 40 year old LP. I have many CDs of the same LP and comparing is frustrating...... As is the surface noise on LP. :bawling:
