Winnipeg on Christmas eve. more commonly known winterpeg, one of the colder places in Canada. They get nailed with the streams of arctic air when it dips south. I was there last winter, -15 -20 is t shirt time to them. Then it dips down to -40c or 45 suddenly and you feel the burn. At least I do, not used to that cold its not as common in Toronto.

I can handle the big'un's. Are we talking a snowfalls. We were expecting a storm today but its been cancelled...last I heard.
I like when the city gets shut down by so much snow, its happy chaos.

No, us marine boys look at the bigger picture, two steps ahead.
(aka, I can smell rain or snow, and wuthering headings. even works with a shot nose, part is in the knee caps)

Sometimes I can tell when its going to rain or snow from inside the house, before it arrives. My ears do funny things with the pressure change if its that drastic, like there doing now. Similar feeling you get while deep water diving.
The first big'un is upon us, wind driven snow is pelting the hell out of my window as I type.
The forecast went from 10cm to 1cm to these blizzard like conditions in a matter of a day. Im not complaining it brings back a sense of normalcy because who the heck wants plus temps and green lawns at xmas time.

You mean like this.....
With all the rain, the little creek behind our house has turned up a notch or three. It's usually about a foot deep and barely moving. Last year it was frozen over. Yes, I saw two rafters go past yesterday. I believe it was the same kids twice. Current temp is 50F (+10C).

Whoa - that's not a little creek any more. It's 55F in my neck of the woods, and the temperature has been going down to the mid-30s at night - balmy spring weather in maple-syrup territory (and West Virginny).
That's about to change. The rain and ugliness that pounded the southeast has pushed through here leaving a whole bunch of cold behind it.
I took the grandkids for a walk in the park at lunch time in a T-shirt and flip flops. It was somewhere in the mid 50's temperature wise. It is 39 degrees now (9PM) and that's the high for the next 3 days. The low is supposed to be in the low 20's.

Me, I'm too uncoordinated to skate on anything, much less ice. I did walk across it last year when it froze solid.
During the dry summer months, and up until about 2 weeks ago, I have walked across on the tops of the rocks that are creating the turbulence. The way the water is moving now, I won't go near it. One misstep and you could find yourself in the Ohio river!

I heard a report that the Nina/o may result in abnormally large lake-effect snowfall -- watch out Buffalo, Erie and Cleveland.
Parking lot was coated in quarter inch icey crud two nights ago.

There was heavy frost on my car windows this morning when I rolled out of bed to DJ a morning jazz show at KFJC. My car engine stuttered at bit, too, and took about 5 miles to finally warm up. I took a few more miles to warm up, even with the car heater going. Apparently it got down to about 35F last night, nothing impressive by Canadian or Midwest standards.
Well, in this part of Canada we're going down to -5º these nights and that pretty frigid for us. I have to wear a shirt outside.

My Honda seemed perfectly normal last year up to the day it was -12F. It refused to start. A half hour later it was -9F, and it started. That Walmart battery is another year older this year.

I was outside mounting a flood light that uses a 100W LED. It lights up the front yards of 3 houses. It was sunny, and 30F, No shoes, no shirt......
