The Weather

The funny thing is that when the sun was there, it's not there anymore and it's raining now, I took off the tarp covering my furniture to let it dry, and now it is even more wet because I was inside and didn't see the rain coming...it happened real quick too...in one moment the sky was blue and sunny, and now hell is back.

It's a little windy here today. 😱

Just few days ago we lost power in my area for about four hours, and the Web was also in the dark even when power resumed. ...For twenty-four hours! 😱

The power should go off any second now. It always goes off when the winds are as windy as they are right now. We need under ground wires, but we are too poor to buy shovels and dig trenches. Instead we hang them high above the ground on posts and under the trees (branches). What a great smart way to do things! Lol

And it's raining (sideways), again!🙁

I suppose you want a bridge to Van. to go along with the underground AC power.😉

I lived in south Florida for the first 61 years of my life. Every few years we have a hurricane with sustained winds of 100 to 150 MPH that last for 6 to 12 hours.....and 90% of the power lines are hung on poles and many pass under or through trees. Florida is also the lightning capital of North America. Every summer we lost power for at least a few hours several times, it's gone for 6 to 12 hours when lightning blows up a transformer, about once a year.

The worst was hurricane Wilma in 2005. The maximum wind speed has been disputed ever since the storm, but half the houses in my neighborhood lost their roofs and our power was out for 22 days. The power poles were snapped in half like tree branches, even the concrete ones. The storm was extremely intense as it trashed parts of the Caribbean and Mexico, but was poorly forecast as it approached Florida, and many did not prepare for it. Having grown up there and seen what mother nature can do, I was prepared for the storm, and suffered minimal damage. The trashing that hit the western end of the Ft. Lauderdale area forced many homeowners to walk away from their overpriced houses starting the beginning of the housing collapse early in that area.

I took this picture of the roof blowing off the house across the street during the storm....and a few other pictures within walking distance of my house, and people ask why I left Florida.

Oh that's just great George; exactly the way it almost looks like here right now.

And why people are living in New Orleans, or building homes in tornadoes alley?

Tell them to move to Canada, near the Alaskan border; beautiful scenery with snow on the mountains and in the frozen ocean. Do they like skiing and skating? ...About wind surfing?

Jeff - bugger the bridge/ Chunnel ideas- look no further than the Blue Bridge replacemant, CRF sewer project , McTavish Road merry- go rounds, proposed McKenzie / Admirals interchange,- shall we continue the count? 😀

I think the last decent major travel infrastructure projects arguably done well in this province were the Coquihalla, and on the Island, the new-ish freeway starting at Nanaimo.

Edit: let's not forget the BC Ferries - but then they're not a fixed link, or part of the highways system - well, until they are again

I'm putting my money on Apple & Tesla joint partnership on ion engine jet packs being completed before the first 2 on my list above.

look no further than the Blue Bridge replacemant,

A bridge too far😀

CRF sewer project ,

A definite maybe, but don't hold your breath (or nose).😀

McTavish Road merry- go rounds,

That must have come from someone's dream.

proposed McKenzie / Admirals interchange,

Cha ching.$$$$

shall we continue the count? 😀

Add Christy's Massey Tunnel redo to your list.

Or a new hover board that doesn't catch fire.😉

Things that contain moisture, frozen or not, are verboten down here. Didn't they ever tell you that water and electricity don't mix????

When I started the process of moving stuff up here I bought a derelict mobile home (you know the trailer park in West Virginia jokes). It was, and still is used for storage.

I have been bringing my previously frozen but now thawed electronics from the trailer into the basement only to find that after two to three years of cold (-15 C last winter) and hot (33 C last summer) storage much of it no longer works......cryo treated electrolytics anyone???

I had to replace every cap in my 50 year old Knight power supply. The equally old Fluke 406D still works however, containing all of its original parts including the tubes.

I think I accidentally got rerouted there on one of our recent trips to the Vancouver area - the Subaru's nav system's SD card data base was just out of date enough to get a bit confused, and one of them was a miserably rainy and foggy day - could hardly see the signage.

Other than that, it was a delightfully scenic tour along the industrial area of the south bank, and what a relief finally finding ourselves heading in the right direction - 180th & 24th in Surrey.

Can't remember the last time I got lost in the Island - well, except for the McTavish Rd exchange😉

The winds died down today, after yesterday's massacre. It's mild, nice sunset it was.

The ferries between the islands and the Mainland; they drift sometime during stormy weather, the captains with them.

A bridge between Vancouver Island and the Mainland would probably make one of the seventh wonders of this world, along with the great wall of China. ...And the new one kilometer tallest building of this world, in Dubai. ...Presently being built, and ready in 2018 (maybe 2019, depending of the cement supply).
