That scene from BTF was disappointing. When a speaker THAT big blows, it should bottom the subwoofer drivers in the cinema. Didn’t even come close. Even the shorting out hum wasn’t very loud. It made more noise when I had a PL400 send DC to a speaker once. Or when a made the same phase linear make sparks come out from under the dust cap of a 4” full range driver playing Tom Sawyer.
Yeah... first the smoke... then the DC.
The speaker didn't flash or anything.... two pairs of Audio Note woofers...
Oh well, all is well now.
Imagine if I had been running a 1Kw amp instead...

Actually, when that PL ruined a 15” Cerwin Vega it was because the VAS heat sink (collector) to board solder joint failed. Once corrected it was fine. The one that blew out 12 Fairchild PL909’s also blew the rail fuses, saving the speakers.
The 4” full range was just a couple of nerds with nothing better to do getting destructive. It’s not like it was a GOOD speaker. 1/2” (if that) VC, fs about 200Hz, paper surround, whizzer cone, magnet the size of a thimble. 2 watt power rating.
