The test of a 'Muscial' Sub.

Ah, but which is correct? - "You are there" or "They (the musicians) are here"

The former would imply classical recording techniques with plenty of ambience capture and controlled-directivity speakers to reduce the amount of our own rooms that we hear.

The latter would require close-mic'd recordings and speakers that illuminate a lot of our own room.

Both have their place.

In commercial HiFi, most manufacturers appear to have settled on a half-way solution: direct-radiators. Not omnidirectional, but nowhere near as "focused" as horns. It's a compromise, I suppose, which works reasonably well in most rooms, for most music, most of the time.

At this point, I think I'm convinced that user-selectable directivity is the only sensible choice, but implementing that over a wide bandwidth would be non-trivial.

I suppose for solo piano I want the latter and for larger groups the former but I really wasn't trying to distinguish to that level but rather just that I want to be presented with a credible illusion of an actual performance that you feel like you can touch. Generally I think minimal mic'ing is best in that regard with departure from that only as needed not just for the convenience of the recording engineer.

liar lol you didn't listen to the songs on THAT page and get those comments. Theres literally 4 songs on that page, and I know 3 of them well....non of your remarks line up with the content
Okay, if you say so. Personally, after again hearing through one more cringeful time... After a thorough re-evaluation, I think ALL those tunes are slow, boring, and my other comments match just fine.

I posted that previous tune for a more positive vibe, not for some sort of pi$$ing contest.

Not gonna brag about my musical skills, but those tracks on that page all run samples on the drum tracks that have little to no variation throughout.
I stopped sampling in 2001 because I feel it's like cheating, too easy. Admittedly the stuff I've released on various media is a bit boring and slow, background on that was when I tested some tunes on people years ago everyone told me it was "a bit much", so I've mellowed out a bit more than I should have, going through my unreleased tracks these days...

As for jazz, made before sampling this, consistent timing!

An example of more speed and better use of samples would be to bring a tune like Faul - Step Up
Yes, it's the good 'ol Amen break, as a (non-smoking) Junglist myself I grew up on that stuff.

As for rapping, another Amen break choon from the good 'ol days:

Another good example of good rap and breaks, at a more sedate pace:

Even slower but shining example of quality lyrics and overall awesome choon:

NICE1 and in all caps, sounds awesome when loud:

Classic breaks that build over time:

D'n'B with beautiful vocals and jazz elements:

Classic jazzy smooth D'n'B instrumental from '95:

None of those have significant low frequency content though, but good bass and system integration is still really important for proper definition.

If you want one of my own slightly up-tempo already released tracks you could look at Ninja Kitten:

I'll say it again, as an enjoyer of a lot of rap and hip hop from the 90's, stuff on the modern day hit lists suck bigtime!

Still relevant:

LOL, 😊 Brick Saw that was a good one.

I really hope someone names a future project Brick Saw
Thanks. Your wish is my command, and I will label the new project that after the move back to my home.

Brick saw is not a random thing, but I won't bore with the story again. Short version; neighbour complains about SPL to Police, I buy brick saw and get new hobby of making tiny bricks from large ones.
