On the subject of Tannoys... Attached are frequency sweeps of the LF drivers from my Monitor Gold 15s, in open baffles with the microphone about a meter away, no crossover in place. I have two questions.
1) The dips between 200 and 300 hz seem odd. They don't appear in other frequency sweeps of the 15" golds that I have seen. What might account for them? Room interference? Bad mic calibration? Deterioration of the drivers?
2) The response of the two almost 50 year old drivers seem awfully similar. Does that indicate they're in good shape, or could they have aged/deteriorated in tandem? They look pristine. They were never used in a recording studio - my dad imported them to Canada back in the day. They sound great, though I'm still tweaking the xovers. I'm asking because I actually sourced recones for them from Lockwood. Now I'm wondering if I should sit pat and pass on the recones to someone else.
if two drivers are similar , sounding good - just ignore measurements and do not think what's issue with mic/software setup
if surrounds are in good shape - pass re-cones to someone else
if surrounds are so-so , buy re-cones or just surrounds
and - two hands of Dammar coating are doing wonders for old and dried cones

Just out of interest we’re the drivers measured from the same place and in the same room....
thank you !
tnx to Generg , I have book in my hands fro many moons now .... and I can\t recommend it enough - not only great and amusing but also extremely informative read
Book not made for any type of Brand Aficionados - it's made for ppl able to value story about work and efforts and knowledge
I read that book 4 times.
I've been thinking for a long time why there are so many versions of crossover for the same box.

From (Sound Reproduction Loudspeakers and Rooms Floyd E. Toole)
The Tannoy 2528 crossover version with the notch filter has problems with the dispersion.
Fact is that Tannoy squawker Pepperpot is barely 10cm long, should be used from 4-5kHz because dispersion issues.
I immediately heard the difference. To have to sit right in the middle and use a Compass- for the ears.
And the factory crossover version 2 is between 4-5kHz depending on the back button on the speaker.
In position 0 is precisely 4500 Hz

At this frequency I can sit anywhere in the room.

Wow! I've been doing my own comparisons of the Tannoy to the Quad ESL.
(Excuse the mess...)

Same room, but they were measured in place on their separate baffles.
