Mod the 5 leds area for more volts. Use 3 red, 1 green, and 1 LM329 (its cathode looking reverse to leds). Use 220uF electrolytic for filtering that array, has alternative position pads where they put the film cap on hot rod Hypno PCBs.
Got it! Thanks a lot.
I have already built several salas regs, though new trivial questions continue to come 🙂
what are the best price/performance caps for 47uf & 220uf (c6 & c7, v1.0)?
I was looking for silmics/tonerex, perhaps panasonic FC would be fine too or due to their extremely low esr these could bring no benefit?

Sorry for asking a question that probably has been asked many times before ... but it is rather difficult to read all these threads.
The question is: how much current can deliver Salas Reg (R6 modded version) ? The requirement is that it should provide 24v DC.

Using IRFP TO-240s and V1, their SOA and your sinking is the limit.
Another question - if the load is about 100 mA, how much current would you design the Salas Reg to deliver ? My understanding is that this current is mainly defined by Vbe/R1 ... What is the experience ?
200mA would be fine conservatively thinking. 300mA+ will be a bit better subjectively if you allow yourself the energy and sinking overheads.
When using BJT controlled main CCS versions, yes Vbe/R1=CCS current.

Another BJT controlled one is Reflektor of course. Some Japanese diyers are apparently trying a low Vgs Mosfet mod to use it at 5V or under:
Salas Reflektor 2011?????? ??3: Kon???????
An input decoupling cap is included also, they should have had instability without a resistor at the BJT controller's base and some input cabling maybe. Also using only 0.1 Ohm damping on the output cap or the high Ciss part could have made it more reactive.

I use Pana FM
thanks!
Salas, Andrew, your expert piece of advice would be extremely very appreciated regarding elko caps 🙂 thanks in advance!
Hello guys,
I've seen that some of you have been using 2N5432 FETs in some of the reincarnations of Salas' design.
Does anybody have a source for these?
I'm building a Burst Generator board for my Audio Precision System One and need about 10 of these critters.
thanks,
jan didden

mouser has them in stock
as promised... here my buffalo III dac with mixed xformer (i/v conversion and unbalancing)/tube output (srpp buffer), both HV and LV Salas shunt and heaters psu made with a lm317 and a 2n3055 as current driverNice. Expecting pics.

BG if you can still find, Panasonic Pureism (obscure NOS), Nichicon Muse.

Nice shot, Thunderbirds grade.🙂 Did it all come across nice to ears too?
