Does anyone know what materials one uses for trafowinding nowadays? What to use between the layers, that thin silk paper? Ordinary kitchen stuff?

Some people use high quality Kraft paper between layers - OK if varnish impregnated. Polyester tape also works, though the dielectric constant is fairly high. My magnetics guru at the first SMPS job I had preferred Nomex paper, but he came from an aerospace avionics background and had expensive tastes. I've thought of using the same teflon tape used to seal pipe threads, as wide as you can find it. The build might be too much for decent volumetric efficiency. They make teflon tape for specialty electronics applications, but it's no doubt a specialty order item with a hefty minimum quantity order and a long wait.
Ptft foil. 7-eleven didnt have it. Is it really that imp? Imp is that it lasts temp a few 1000 hrs and that it sorts layering. Theres no voltage difference between layers.
Nomex and poly stuff is great between windings I guess. To bulky and messy to use between every layer. I have to go lick Per's shoes, as always.
