No, really.....those are drainage ditches for some of the wetter (read, SWAMPY) areas of Florida. I guess if they are successful in draining some of those areas, they'll become candidates for construction of "golf villas" ($$$$)
I'm more to the south.... a block off the Gulf Coast (and at a booming elevation of 42 feet above sea level....!!)

With the Choctawhatchee river delta in the east, it may be more than drainage.

CanAm Man... Thanks -yes, very similar looking coastline, although, it's looking down on Waimanalo Beach, Kaohekaipo Island, and Makapuu point on the right. Kuliouou also has a lot of steps; as a volunteer on a DLNR / Sierra Club trail service project, I put ~40 of them.
