Yes, it will work fine - just note that there is about 6 dB of baffle step loss that you will have to deal with to flatten the frequency response from about 500 Hz on up. This can be done with active EQ or with a BSC. If you want the BSC route: 0.6 mH coil parallel with a 6 ohm resistor, place this in series with positive lead to driver terminal. A XO between 200 and 250 Hz should work well.

Wish I could help you Turbon, here in the States we simply walk into a Dollar store (they are all over the place) and grab as many as we want at $1/sheet. 😀 They are labeled "Made in USA" so I guess maybe not something Europe has caught on to making in large numbers yet. Try an art supply store or picture framing store - they will cost more there as they tend to be the thicker paper face variety.

Nautaloss with Fountek FE85

I finished one Nautaloss enclosure with a Fountek FE85. I only built one for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, I was concerned that the efficiency might be a little low and that I may need to go to 2 drivers. That is in fact the case and I will go with 2 drivers - I've left room for putting in the second.
Secondly, I wanted to try out a slightly different construction technique whereby I used one 10" by 30" sheet (so one 20x30 sheet for both enclosures) and only made partial cuts through the first layer of paper so that I was able to fold the FC to form the top, bottom and sides with only one glue joint. It worked out quite well and in combination with a slightly better black FC that I got from Staples the folded edges have a nice rounded appearance.
I haven't installed the BSC yet and first listening impressions indicate it's needed. I'll write an update once I have the second enclosure done and BSC installed.

Wow! That is a cool design, I see you are adding your own innovations such as the one piece folded sides! Great idea! Can you show a picture of just the side with folds? I think I see it but not totally clear where the scored line is. Will you use this with the Nautaloss sub woofer and do you have a XO or DSP?

The foam core I use only comes in a single thickness of 3/16 of an inch (0.1875 inch thick). I double it up or sometimes use triple layers where the driver mounts.
Nautaloss II with dual FE85's
Grandcalmar,
I ran some simulations of your proposed Nautaloss II's with the Fountek FE85. You are right that this driver's sensitivity will be dramatically improved with dual drivers wired in paralllel. If running 2 drivers as a 4 ohm load, reduce the BSC resistor to 3 ohms + same 0.6mH inductor in simulation of single driver. You will have sensitivity of about 87 dB at 1 watt at 2.83V. Note that the tradeoff for having dual drivers is the reduced vertical sweetspot which then becomes +/- 15 degrees as there will be lobing in the vertical direction as you will see in the vertical polar plot. My other comment about this driver is that the 1.5mm xmax is relatively small and you will need to high pass the speaker. For use with the Nautaloss subwoofer, I suggest a -12dB/oct high pass filter at 200 Hz. This will allow you to put a max of 10 volts rms to achieve almost 100 dB SPL at 1m.
Below are the plots for:
- SPL vs Freq at 2.83V without high pass filter
- SPL vs Freq at 10V with 200 Hz high pass filter
- Cone displacement at 10V with 200 Hz high pass filter
- Impedance with high pass filter
- Impulse response with high pass filter
- Polar response for 200 Hz, 1 kHz, 4kHz at 2 meters away
Looks like it can work really well as a monitor for a stationary (seated listening) application.

Uhm, and what about 2 x True Digital Power Amplifiers ?This is just a suggest but it makes possible to exercise such setup without high costs.
2 times UAE23 USB audio devices up to 24bit/96KHz ES9023 DAC this gives four analog or digital outputs for active FIR XO and EQ at cost (2x$42.00) $84.00 here HiFimeDIY Sabre USB DAC. Digital to Analog Converter 96khz/24bit (incl USB to optical converter feature), you just further need a desktop not too old. Not shure Foobar can use two sound devices but read somewhere JRiver can. If interested i can test if JRiver can route XO to two USB devices this weekend, just request.

More sound clips of Nautaloss I
I was going through an old box of CD's that I have not listened to in ages and put on something I must not have heard in nearly 20 years. The last time I listened to it, I probably heard it on a boom box with CD player. Anyhow, I put the Specials "The Singles" on and WOW - those are some great recordings from the days of analog. It is like I heard the songs for the first time. Anyhow, had to share with you what some of the clips sound like. Really enjoying the Nautaloss I and subs. 😀

Thats almost 5mm. Would it be bad to use 10mm board all over more than the hassle that it is harder to bend and glue? Would it gain anything?

If you can bend the 10 mm into a spiral that can work fine as it gives you a stronger box and less bracing needed.

That is a great looking speaker Cal. How does the wood diaphragm driver sound? I guess paper really is reconstituted wood but in its raw form is very cool. I have yet to hear an Onken alignment - wonder how it sounds compared to BR?
