I've had some nice measurements done tonight while trying a different approach, based on the Manzanita OB woofers, using a low 65Hz first order. Feeling happy here!
Where did you get those in Taiwan? 🙂
Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding!
I didn't get the woofers here! Although I got a reasonable quote for shipping some GRS 15" woofers over here... but later read that they are not so good and clean.
I followed the approach they use with the Manzanita OB woofers. They use a single 20mH inductor on the woofer. It gets a flatter and lower reach, at the expense of some efficiency.
So, I went the same way, but using JRiver as the filter.
🙂

I know your mind is into subs right now, but could you, please, take a look at his thread?

I got interested in using the Mivoc AW200 as sub so I made a sim in BOXSIM.
8 pcs (9 is an odd number to wire, whereas 4 in series and paralleled with another set of 4 makes 8 Ohms) AW 200 in a 200cm high enclosure 12.5 liter pr. unit.
Looks quite promising.
Of course you need some heavy EQ on the subs. but placed near corner you should be able to have a good low end extension.

I'll probably disappoint a few, I've decided to not do the metal frame 🙁.
Even though it seemed like a good idea (I still think that), there are a few loose ends that bother me. Loose ends that have to do with the things I can do/ could accomplish with simple hand tools.
Sometimes simpler is just better. I've gone back and forth between the options a couple of times and it's just not worth it to me. It would complicate the build as it would need a lot of fasteners, some fillers/glues that stay elastic and many helper tools to make sure the welded frame would be up to par (square corners and preventing the added heat from bending the frame) etc.
A glued wooden frame wouldn't add those kinds of trouble. If I had a complete workshop at my disposal it would have been different. Got to draw a line somewhere.

Even though I couldn't see the benefit myself I was still interested see what you came up with. Simple can be good too 🙂
I'm more interested to see how you integrate them with your arrays and if you think they are a worthwhile addition 😉 I'm tempted to get a pair of 12" sub drivers myself as they could be used with a number of different builds. The peerless driver that was used in Linkwitz THOR sub are still listed on an Australian sellers page. They look very similar to the Scanspeak you chose.
Yes, I'm interested in that part too 😀.
I'm exited to start trying, but time is the biggest problem right now. Which is why I abandoned the steel frame to keep it reasonable.
That original Peerless is indeed very similar to the Scan Speak. Though the original XLS Linkwitz used had a nomex fiber impregnated cone, right? The latter Peerless XXLS is aluminium coned like the Scan Speak 30W.
No surprise they are that similar as they once were part of one big happy family. Like the TC9 and the 10F, or all of them ring radiators.
Some of those ring radiators are so closely related that all that seems to be different is the name tag.

Yes the 830500 is the first THOR driver and is paper, the 835017 is aluminium. I need to check if the 830500 is still available to buy as they are $100 cheaper than the 835017.
TS parameters are pretty similar and the basket and magnet looks the same.
If I were allowed to do so I'd rather do an array (or two) of the Scan Speaks (or XXLS) 😀.
Agree 😀 imagine how little they each have to move then and HD plot would shine and never to forget looking at.

Now, who inspires whom? 😀
Hahaha, you don't want to know all the configurations I have had on my mind 😀.
Have you ever seen the monstrosity setup from Stigerik? The open baffle setup with a huge amount of big woofers and the big B&G panels? Not sure that picture is still up, I do have one saved:
Stuff like that really sets of my own imagination.
I do believe it's a very good thing that I am constrained due to relational considerations. Things would get wild rather quick if I could have my way in everything.

Ok, you won 😀
On my side it's not relational considerations, it's just a matter of space.
BTW, may I use this pic in my church line thread?

You've got my permission but that's not saying anything. I saved it from StigErik's thread as the pictures in that thread have largely disappeared over time. I did want to keep that inspirational picture.
If you post it (as I should have done) link to the original thread by StigErik.

Thanks & will do.
Inspired by this pic and thinking of my thread, why play with 9x8inch - why not 16x JBL 12inch? https://www.amazon.de/JBL-Auto-Hifi...propylan-Tieftonmembran-Schwarz/dp/B003A64AW0

I had thought about a shorter line of 8" woofers as they could be easier to fit in a living room.If I were allowed to do so I'd rather do an array (or two) of the Scan Speaks (or XXLS) 😀.
I already have too many expensive speakers so any more than one or two 12" subs is not on the cards for me any time soon, plus I have tried hard to make my lines visually unobtrusive (as far as any speaker more than 7 feet high can be) I don't think I could pull the same trick with Stig Erik's 21" driver floor to ceiling H frames 😀

Why not 9x Mivoc AW2000?
Knitting a sock for the 21" H frames seems like a major job 😀

Great apartment system! It would make a nice upgrade to my Bose wave radio!

Because they would cost me more in shipping than the cost of the drivers, but otherwise they could work.
I was thinking about the new SB acoustics 8" woofer
8" SB20PFC30-8 :: SB Acoustics
Specs look quite good and we know that plastic framed drivers can sound good too 😉
I think knitting a sock would be hard, lucky for me I just used grill cloth instead and my mother was staying with us so she did the sewing 🙂
