Guy,
Thanks! I don't know how to start a group buy or will I find time to organize one. My plan right now after the prototypes is to order a batch of 60 stereo sets (regular Aleph not 1.2/X) until they run out and hopefully order again.
Clark,
If you check out the start of this thread you'll read a detailed description of the boards. The name HotRod is from my fascination with muscle cars...basically the HRA boards can be configured as Aleph 2, 3, 4, 5, 30, 60, 1.2 or X. That's 30W to 200W or more. Why not include Mini-A? Grey? Just put a blown out FET at one end to hold up the boards on the heatsink. The boards can be wired an honest Aleph as NP designed, it's front end ckt wired as original Aleph or as Aleph 30/60, can be tuned to your bias/musical taste using trim pots, etc. For a SuperCharger/Turbo HotRod Aleph check out my thread for extreme tuning of a regular Aleph...

How is that Aussie Mac doing with his boards, you are not waiting for his briefing ?
He's been so quiet, i wouldnt even mind him putting a wig on and posting his own picture.

Hey JV,
I hope Ian's not stuck in some billabong in the middle of the outback🙂
Is the other Jacco with a "k"?
Ian, feel free to e-mail me if you have a question about the boards.

Blues,
Just let me know where and when to send the cash when you are ready. Good job, great job!

Not so fast Mr. K, I won't accept your payment unless I see proof of your 5-buck donation🙂 Thanks for your compliments.
My big "Thank You!" goes to Mr. Pass and all who contribute to our diyaudio community. Let this be my little contribution and I hope everyone who will use it will be happy.

Jacco,
Ian e-mailed me and said he had been ill but is now up and about. We wish your speedy recovery Ian.
It's moving forward...
Got word that the proto board is coming and I am excited. Would anyone be interested in filling it up and firing it up? Aleph 2,3,4, or 5 as from what I understand I will receive one set of the proto boards? 1.2 and X will need another set of the boards. I am looking for well-versed Aleph builder who has the parts and can do it in say 3 months or less.

Nobody seems to want to rise to the challenge. I'll probably DIMyself.
For everyone's information the HotRod Aleph boards are for Nelson Pass's Aleph series circuit design (2 stage only). The added benefits are:
1) It accomodates any of the following Aleph 2, 3, 4, 5, 30, 60, 1.2 and the X (up to 6 pairs of output devices per side of the balanced circuit) without having dangling wires to the output devices,
2) It can be configured for a regular Aleph with a 30/60 input circuit,
3) It accomodates all possible trimmer pots for adjustment of bias (front and output), DC offset, etc. Trimmer pots can be replaced with resistors once circuit is tuned.
4) Front end diff pair are oriented to use one heatsink for thermal coupling, plus more...
Here are some pictures of the boards...yeyy!! Finally did it. The horizontal lines are where the boards will be separated for 4 3"x12" boards for a complete mirror imaged stereo set.
I don't have time to organize a group buy but anyone interested can start one. Meanwhile I need to fill it up and test it somehow before ordering big...if you guys are interested.

Hello Blues,
Sorry to see the interest died down a bit. Still looks like a very interesting project! I am still finishing up my first Aleph 5, boards are 90% finished. Power supply is done (it just keeps eating fuses on startup. Well, with over 500mF filtercaps you could say I had it coming to me).
I am very interested to see if I need to make last minute changes! One thing I would like to change is a non-critical listing mode (low bias).
Good luck!
Regards,
Jarno.

Hey Jarno, thanks for the push.
If you are just testing your PS and you are sure all the components are connected correctly and not one is faulty, try a fuse next step higher until it doesn't blow and just let your PS caps fully charge. You can test them without load. Unloaded, it should be about 5V higher than the specified A5 rails.

Hello Blues,
I used a 50watt resistor (didn't pull the max current, just a couple of amps to "keep the PSU busy") as a dummyload, and the voltage is spot on. The thing is, I can't get the right varistors overhere. I did use varistors but they don't seem to be able to keep the current in check (and I did went up to 5A fuses, equivalent to 10A on your side of the ocean). So, I bought a ready made current limiter. I haven't mounted it yet (too many other projects), but I have a feeling it'll work (its useable for toroids of upto 2kVA, mine is 800VA).
I also ordered Wago's today to be able to connect the Mosfet boards properly (without having to solder and de-solder them each time I want to change anything).
