The Frugel-Horn Project

I took the mounting rings off to see if it made any difference, and it did, the soundstage seemed to open up a bit, and the sound smoothed out a little bit more.

I also addedd a little more wadding around the area the wires run since I noticed a slight rattle at higher volume.

The crossover was a standard cap and inductor setup, but the usual low quality stuff. When I attached the binding posts, I decided that I would make them bi-wirable, so when I attached an active crossover and seperate amps for each driver, I noticed quite an improvement.

Like I said, car speakers were not my first choice, but they were there, so I thought I'd give them a go.

I love the design of the frugel-horn enclosure, its quite elegant and performs extremely well.

At some point I might try some different drivers, to see what differences there are in the sound, I have a few others lying around, but for now, I'm more than happy.

Building these speakers was a very enjoyable experience, the plans were really easy to follow.

No... those are now finished and for sale -- i'll take some pictures. They are quite pretty.

These are having the FF125 installed so that we can optimize for it and evaluate it.

I really liked them the way they were when i had them. What is the price ? I was definaly considering a set when i borrowed them. Just needs a Ribbon on top ( my opinion )

Picture,

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

The flash doesn't really capture the colours... i'll try to get some better pics tomorrow. The "copper" coloured drivers (they don't look copper in the picture) are intended for our full-build frugel-horns.

Heck yes! How to stick it to Gemme audio with their MDF and ~$4,000 pricetag for a smoothed version of Fostex's own enclosure (which they have the brass face to say they designed) in one easy lesson! Want some, want some!

OT: I've yet to build another pair of Ron's Austin II & also a layered A126 already in progress...

The ply is just all around much better quality build than MDF but comes with the cost...
