In my experience food is pretty much the only thing Italians take seriously.
In Northern Italy they make also good design for furnitures and in Southern Italy they know very well how to avoid stress.😀
Its also very well known that pizza is origin from Italy and that the world is a pizza ,altough i think SY will not agree herewith.

SY hasn't posted since Novemberish, hope he is OK.
I always heard something very like pizza was invented in greece. a portable food brought to the theater. They didn't have tomatoes back then, though...
I grew up on spag bog with chicken livers, I thought it was normal....... (jacco might have it) IIRC he puts chicken liver puree into his Bolognese.

It might be that aliens are still probing him, he must have much to tell...SY hasn't posted since Novemberish, hope he is OK.
Don't mention pineapple pizza....I always heard something very like pizza was invented in Greece. a portable food brought to the theater. They didn't have tomatoes back then, though...

Right across the street at the gyros place, at the bottom of the list pineapple and even more scary Hawaiian pizza (I suspect pineapple and ham).
I asked you not to tell me that.... 😉Right across the street at the gyros place, at the bottom of the list pineapple and even more scary Hawaiian pizza (I suspect pineapple and ham).
'Hawaiian' ham and pineapple pizza is Stuarts Kryptonite.

I thought that was mayonnaise but I could well be mistaken.
Hope he is ok though, I had noticed his absence recently.

Thats the reason why there is a market called Eataly
My visits to Italy are usually 80% eating and 20% site seeing.
I combined my italian sightseeing with the beach and food.
The local public beach had emperor Tiberius' bath at the far end, Cicero's tomb was along the way to the restaurants and the antiquities museum between the ice cream parlor and the fish market. ;-)

Dont let an italian hear you calling their precious Gelato "Icecream"
They've heard me say that quite frequently without any issues.
May be they develop issues when there is other, inferior stuff available that is also called ice cream ie outside of Italy. Would be understandable...

You probably find that more common outside of Italy, but yes they are quite different. Inside Italy you would probably not find much western style ice cream.
Minions love Gelato

Sorry couldn't resist. On last visit to Italy I think we each ate our bodyweight in Gelato.

Shoes, fashion sense, cars, motorcycles, culture.... What have the Romans done for us😉
I was gonna say Italians gave us espresso! But then I realized that falls under food as well.
It seems like Americans are always cloning others.
First they copied Disney Land Paris,
And now they're copying the obesity numbers from Italy.

And for whatever the population of Bologna is, there's probably 2x that many house recipes. 🙂
Me and mamselle visited Parma and Bologna about 6 years ago -- i think the city has two adjectives (pardon my Italian) "la grassa", or "la dotta".
Same trip got a EUR125 ticket for driving in the bus lane in Milano.

Americans are way ahead of Italy when it comes to being fat.
Obesity is the one area where America really is No 1 with 30% of the population being obese, Italy is 25th with 8%.
