The food thread

AllenB, I have oats 5 out of 7 days for breakfast.

I use traditional oats, not instant ones.

I mix broken walnuts, dried cranberries and 1/2 cup of oats. Add water until they are well covered and 3:30 in the microwave.

One can substitute milk, half/half, etc, but it is inclined to boil over.

I made dirty rice yesterday and had it for dinner tonight.
1# ground round (ground it myself) fried until it is brown
add garlic, peppers, onions, chopped celery, and two large jalapenos and cook till the onions are translucent
add 1-1/2cups brown/red/black rice mixed
1 can Rotel tomatoes and green peppers
two cans of water
1TBSP Cajun spice mix

I should have started the rice separate since it takes so long to cook compared to white rice. The peppers and onions were falling apart.

Quite tasty though.

Got a can of home-made ghee from friends. That mox is finished so I bought a can at our local "immigrant market".
Ghee simplifies cooking as it dosn't splutter and splatter nor does it leave over-fried residue.
