I think the exception might be herd animals, as we can buy buffalo meat in stores. How one would pen in white tail is beyond me.
Fish are also technically "wild". 🙂 The distinction with land animals is that they are raised for food, it gets shady though with things like wild boar. Quail, grouse, squab, venison, boar are all readily available by order. There is also the issue of USDA slaughter and of course all those nice license fees. Fresh New Zealand venison is a seasonal item at a few local fancy markets.

EDIT - At < $10 a lb. those boar shanks are tempting.

I just meant things like jerky or tamales, never backstrap or sausage rings.I think the exception might be herd animals, as we can buy buffalo meat in stores. How one would pen in white tail is beyond me.
You might be surprised at how many ranches around here have 12 foot fences.
Since this thread also includes drinks, anyone ever make Mama Juana?

but would love to get my hands on some ruffed grouse or other partridge
Just noticed they had this, very pricey, but as they say you won't forget the taste. This is still available real shot game, there are occasional pellets. I remember scrambling for the wine list to find an appropriate bottle this stuff requires a really stinky old Barolo, Rhone, or poopy Burgundy (the traditional choice).

We had a Dominican friend named Lincoln when we lived in Eugene. He had a bunch of different formulas of the stuff for all different uses....medicinal to recreational. We had a mutual friend who broke his leg and taking daily doses from a bottle of the stuff healed weeks earlier then doctors predicted. As for recreational by the time I drank any of the stuff I was already in so deep there is no saying weather it had any effect.
I made it once, worst tasting drink ever had.Since this thread also includes drinks, anyone ever make Mama Juana?

Related to game meat, it's not something usual to be seen where I live. I cannot imagine to eat some wild animal hunted by myself, isn't easy to catch a disease that animal could have? That's the main point to my concern.
I don't think there are many cases of disease spread by game meat; I have never heard of a case. Poor handling of the meat is more likely to be a problem than any disease in the animal. Sick animals don't live long in the woods, the coyotes kill them. The deer hunted around here are very healthy. Same with birds like partridge or pheasant (and they are delicious!). These aren't city pigeons.
A quirky UK law says it is illegal to take away a deer you hit with a car, but I once saw a fresh deer that had been hit by a truck, luckily I had a tarpaulin in the boot at the time, so in it went, 19 meals for 2...
No room in the freezer, so after hanging it in the garage for two days I had to debone it all.
The other treat is rabbits bought at the farmers market, they always have shot in them though.

I still keep the bottle, not that I am an alcoholic-drinks lover, but didn't liked it at all.

It does taste a bit unusual it's true but I thought you had to have something much worse than that, no?

I like the label "this product increase man's vitality" indeed - along with grammar skiils
Virility more like it. That stuff has magic powers.
Just ask my wife,
the maid,
the bartendress,
the lady at the front counter,
the plant lady,
the woman selling flowers,
the lady in the next room,
and the ones I am forgetting right now.

Funny thing is, no matter what resort you stay at the ingredients in the Mama Juana package look remarkably similar to the flora found at that resort. 😀
