This is a eminence cx-12, eminence asd:1001, and two eminence eminator 2515 15". The cx-12 has a high pass LR 24dB/oct at 160hz and a low pass LR 24dB/oct at 2500hz. The tweet is hp LR 24dB/oct at 2500hz inverted phase. The two 15" are in series and have a low pass BW 18dB/oct at 160hz. Initially I had the mid hp and bass lp at 120hz, but measuring the mid by itself didn't seem as flat as the bass driver in that region. It probably needs more work to flatten it out from 500hz down.
The cx12 is in a 1.2 cu ft sealed enclosure with a ton of fiberglass stuffed in. Mark Nofflers voice in Dire Straits sounds as clear as Diana Krawl. I'm amazed how one mono loudspeaker can sound so good. Since I am pleased with the results I'll build the other one next month.
Admittedly this graph cheats a little with 1/2 octave smoothing. It looks completely flat, but even with 1/6 octave smoothing the variations are less than 3dB. I'm a happy camper, it sounds really good to me.
Anyone know how to read a phase response graph? I need to learn how to do "time alignment" with miniDSP. It shows 0.0ms delay. Could this be correct, or am I doing something wrong? All measurements taken at 1 meter on axis, with loop back on the other channel for REW to use as a timing reference.
Would you mind sharing the details of your enclosure for the Eminence Eminator 2515 15". I am building a sub enclosure for this driver for a friend.

I really like the way these look. The bamboo was a nice choice.

I'm happy to share the details. These things are HUGE, they're very comparable to the size of a refrigerator! Lucky for me my wife is really cool about that sort of thing. About 330 liters. I've attached a CAD Drawing that I made, a copy of Jeff Bagby's Excel Sheet that I used to model the volume/size, etc. Also a measured response that I took with a measurement mic and REW.
I don't want to get too far off topic of the CX10 and CX12 that this thread is about, but I've gotta say that the Eminence Eminator 2515 IMO is a great match. Something like $35 each, great bang for the buck too. At 94.4 dB 1m / 1w, they're close in output to the CX12, and yet they have a 27hz FS, and plenty of excursion. Right now I have the two wired in series, so I don't gain or loose any sensitivity. You could gain 6dB by running them in parallel, but you'd need a 2ohm stable amp. For me an upgrade one day is to take them out of series and wire each one directly to its own amp. I can gain 3dB for the fact the two speakers are playing an identical signal and I won't be dividing the voltage like I do with them wired in series.
I do like them, bass sounds good, solid, clean, etc, and with only a 50 watt LM3875 driving them. Honestly, for aesthetic reasons, I would like to build a tapped horn or something like that with the 15" drivers. I have four of them now, and I may be able to set up my room differently if I put the CX12's into a different box, and then had a horn type sub in a corner or something. Mostly I like the doing / experimenting part of DIY, and I want to try to build a horn.
I hope the attachments are helpful and informative of any details you could need. Have fun!
Edit: I'm not able to upload the Excel Sheet that models the response. You can get it here: Loudspeaker Design Software Many people on this site like WinISD too. I recommend getting one or the other or both, they're free. My ports are 4" diameter, and 4" long. Parts Express / Goldwood $3

Hello, thanks for posting your question. Have you seen this regarding Eminence Beta CX in a wall mount application: Using coaxial products for DIY monitors and home hi-fi applications | Eminence Speaker
I based my mid cabinet on the 1.2cu foot sealed enclosure in that article. In my experience I think it definitely will need a subwoofer to go with it. If you want to go without a sub, do a ported design like the wall mount home theatre in the article.
I wanted to build something that had high efficiency, AND had good bass. The trade off for my fight with Hoffmans Iron Law is that I ended up with a huge cabinet. That aside, you could have a smaller subwoofer with less efficiency, just have a good 250w plate amplifier on it.
In the future, you could add a cx 8 or cx 10 as a center channel, to pair with your CX12 left & right. I've heard it said before that having the tweeters in your L&R match your Center helps a lot with the quality of your sound stage. If the tweeters are different, then there's the potential that footsteps walking across the room from left to right will be perceived more like the footsteps walking out of the left speaker into the center, and then walking out of the center into the right speaker. Maybe that's just a sales pitch to get you to buy more than just left and right speakers when shopping at big box electronics.
There may be better choices out there for wall speakers, but on the other hand to have a high efficient speaker IMO gives you dynamics in the midrange that are hard to match by speakers that have less sensitivity. These do very well with guitars, voices, live performances... They really shine. I listen to classical, jazz, blues, rock, pop, etc. I'm not dissapointed. Great bang for the buck!
I'm quite new to the DIY speaker world so excuse any dumb questions. I'm on a quest to get some wall mounted speakers (due to very young kids - if it's not bolted to something it gets pushed over) and the Beta's seem like they could work for me.
Local enough I see someone selling a 12cx plus ASD1001. Coupled with say a 1ft3 - 1.5ft3 sealed enclosure and the Eminence commercial XO (PXB2:2K5CX), would it be crazy to consider something like this as a left and right pair? Further down the line then get a matching center.
I understand the PXB2:2K5CX is probably not great due to the fact it's trying to cover all bases but it would be enough to get me going. A future upgrade could be to change the XO's or upgrade the CD's to a PSD:2013S-8.

Great thank you!
I used the CX-12 and CX-10 with the ASD1001 on an Open Baffle just about 15 inches wide.
Without any eq and bass support , I preferred the 10 inch. I'd guess the 10 inch with bass support will sound quite good. The 12 inch with the asd1001 sounds a bit tame (!). Not bad by itself . I can't really say how they will end up when completed . I'm having trouble getting enough time doing a response test. So they are being used as is ! I'm learning to be patient ! 🙂
Just wondering did you ever try your 12CX/PSD2013S combination with the Eminence 1600Hz crossover? Surely it would suit the 12CX better since the CD can be crossed so low.
I would think that a good Coaxial like the Eminence Beta-10CX screams for bi-amping! An active crossover such as a 24db/octave Linkwitz-Riley would seem ideal. The high frequency amplifier need only be 1/10th of the low frequency amplifier due to the high efficiency of all suitable compression drivers; the cost of an active filter + low power HF amp would be the same or less than a passive crossover, and would have to sound better. Don't you think?

I have a couple sets of the bi-amp modules that I had planned to use just for this.. Alas I don't think this project will ever be done.

In '69, Altec was the first to offer a SS bi-amp system AFAIK and in a side by side comparison of two stereo pairs of A7-500 horn systems in a small auditorium it took me about 30 sec to decide to convert from tubes/passive for best overall high performance and have never looked back.
That said, at least up into the early 2000s when my system finally died, they still needed some fine tuning with passive resistance to 'smooth out' [for lack of a better phrase] the digital 'sound'/'ringing' of SS [dbx units in my case], so unless this has been dealt with much higher resolution/whatever, still a necessary evil for [super] HIFI apps, just keep the caps out or at least add damping resistors to each rather than the typical global approach of one big series resistor, which mostly negates going SS.

This made me laugh,... You sound like me, just ask my wife. I'm really enjoying having a high efficiency speaker, and low power amp. Yes, sounds very good! Better? Hmm, better than what? Better than what I had before, yes definitely.
However it's not "done" and I'm not sure if it ever will be. I'm well over budget of the first thought I had about a year ago. I keep getting new "ideas" about how to make it "better".
So now I'm building a pre-amp, LOL.
I'm just trying to say I hope you enjoy the "fun" of DIY. I really enjoy it, and I like to tell myself it will cost less than this or that,... but I have to admit it's more about fun. I keep raising the price tag of what it's cheaper than, but I also feel it raises the bar of what it sounds better than. Have fun

diysoundgroup claims to have obtained an improved Beta-10cx from Eminence. SPL plots are on their forum. cost $79 vs. standard $69
"diysoundgroup worked with Eminence on a custom model similar to their Beta-10cx but with a couple changes including a stiff light weight darker cone. After some prototype samples were tested we had our new coaxial for the Volt-10 LX Edition. The crossover was then designed to give a smoother response that would lend itself to better performance in front speakers."

I wrote to diysoundgroup, asking for the Thiele-Small parameters for their "improved Beta-10CX". They said they would "have to check with their speaker designer" and get back to me, which they never did. And then told me I didn't need them because the Volt-10LX came with a crossover. ????????

Their focus is on selling completed kits. The effort required to answer all DIYer questions (though I agree that TSPs and response details are sorely lacking from their driver offerings) is something that can't be overstated.
Do note- they don't have "just the driver" listed for their custom coaxes- only listed on the breakout for the kit, not as a standalone for-sale item.
'Sounds' like they want to keep them proprietary as long as practical same as many have done, do. Oh well, better than the !@#$%^&*()_+ that publish 'flooby dust' specs.

I think they're hiding something; doing that to the DIY community is bad practice. All the other manufacturers I have contacted replied with very helpful information--Eminence and Radian, for a couple. If diysound group is "too busy" to answer questions, then I'm "too busy" to buy their products.
if there's a regular id number on the frame, perhaps write Tony Lucas and see if the TS are listed for the public

I would prefer to see full specs too, but I think ascribing nefarious intent to what has been a very positive influence on making cool kits accessible to more DIYers is not really necessary or appropriate.

While I do not agree (nor do you need me to) that they are hiding something, I agree that it seems as if you might be better served by selecting products in which you have a higher degree of confidence. I do not ever want to purchase anything or from anyone unless I have a high degree of trust.
I think the DIYSOUND guys (who I neither know of have purchased from) are stand up people - and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them at all.
