The diyAudio Firstwatt F6

Are the trim pots supposed to be unbelievably sensitive? I'm barely even touching the screw driver and it jumps around like crazy. Same with the offset, it's crazy sensitive too. I managed to get everything set, going to let it go for 30 minutes and then check again.

Those are single-turn pots. Yes, will be sensitive.

Dont use a screwdriver with a magnetic tip.

Did you set the 0.065V with the bulb in place? If no bulb, you are good.

If you used the bulb, turn the bias DOWN, remove the bulb, and set 0.065V, offset to zero as required.

Hi Everyone,

Is it possible to build two F6 kits and wire them as balanced XLR monoblocks, similar to the Amp Camp Amp? Or is there something in the F6 circuit which prevents this type of configuration?

Any insight & advice is greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Yes, it works really fine, just pay attention if you have a speaker protect circuit, it should support balanced speaker output

Hello everyone
I finally finished my F6! I took my time, studied the build guide, browsed the thread, made mistakes. I’m now listening to it and enjoying it. My biggest delay without a question was getting the bias set. At first power up it wouldn’t let me get above .35v. Read read read, I liked “William 2001“ post #368 concerning R7 and R8, LED’s and trimmers and now I have good control over my bias.
I have about 15 hours on it and I think it sounds very nice and getting better as the hours go by.
I want to thank everyone participating in this forum!

Very neat wiring, good job. Enjoy the sound.

A couple of things:

-connect the purple shield wire from the transformer to the chassis ground, not to the audio ground on the power supply board.

-twist the pairs of wires from the power supply board to the capacitors.

🙂
