Simple matter of taste?🙄
Don't think so, rather would say that flat response is only good for a true point source driver and a true point source is an impossibly small driver, in real life these smallish under 3' Frs are tweeters or mid tweeters.
The bigger the driver, especially over 2', the worst sounds a flat axial response, because the duller it sounds no matter of taste: they suck simply because too lacking of hf energy in reverberated soundfield..
Flat no good for FRS!
We said functionally the same thing; you, me and the other more technically knowledgeable know the why, but to the layman it's probably just a matter of taste.
Depends, the late, exceedingly rare, Babb Lorelei used an interesting grill/phase plug, diaphragm construction to get a very wide ~flat power response out to 20 kHz [actually too wide for me in my LEDE room] from a 4.5"? dia. [can't easily get to it to measure] most 'full-range' driver we're likely to see anytime soon.

Ok, when dealing with bass or trebble quality the word taste is better avoided...😀

What do you think of this 4inch full range. I intend to use it as LCRS speakers of a home theatre. HPF of 120Hz will be used.

Dayton does make good drivers, but their fullrangers are not those. They suck. But their multway drivers are quiet decent quality and their subwoofers are among the better that are not very expensive.
But for decent fullrange drivers that are not overly expensive, better look at Mark Audio, Fostex, Tangband, Peerless/Vifa, Foundtek, Scanspeak, ... They all do it a lot better.

That might be too general of a categorization.
Some good Dayton full range drivers IMO:
RS100, RS100P, PS95-8, PA130-8
The PA130-8 looks ugly, but it’s very musical and gets 89dB for under $20.

yea, Dayton has put out some good stuff, but the point bullet phase plug seems a fail, as does the 6.5" and up (the freq response, ouch).

I have these, the 4FE35s, and they are a good full range driver. Not a lot of welly down low but their mids and tops are about as good as anything else out there in the 4-inch full range area, especially at the price.

Galaxy Audio S5N-8 5" Neodymium Full Range Driver 8 Ohm
Again, not much in the way of bass response but pretty good otherwise.

LaVoce at Parts Express, offers some interesting looking drivers - I've piddled with this 3 inch driver in a cardboard mess with slot filter.
LaVoce also has a fine looking 6.5" 97dB rated midrange for $60

That looks like TC9F crossed with a 3FE25. The 14dB rise on axis is kind of annoying. That might be a bit forward sounding. Interesting driver though and the price is right.
the qts on that 3" is .72 ?
doesn't seem right with that honker magnet.
Copper shorting sleeve.
But that rising response would help in a flat array against combing.
seems like a car speaker to me.

Which driver is this midrange? I've seen the specs of their midbass drivers, they have fine 6.5" midbass models.LaVoce at Parts Express, offers some interesting looking drivers - I've piddled with this 3 inch driver in a cardboard mess with slot filter.

Where can I source the Mark Audio Alpair 10.3 100mm 8ohm 30W 87.988dB in UK ?
Alpair 10.3 | Markaudio
I found them on the the website of Mark Audio but I can't seem to find them online and what's odd is that I couldn't find it for sale in USA nor Europe online. It's as if this driver doesn't exist. What am I missing here ?
I have been using my ps180-8 fullranges in a small TL for about 9 months now. They are a little rough around the edges but I have grown to like them, particularly the imaging percussion and voices. I put in a BSC recently improving the overall balance.

How would a system perform using full rangers and a small sub?
Wouldn't the treble crisp up with a high-pass on a full-range?
Isn't most of the range people are looking from in a full-range more like 80Hz and up?
