BTW, regarding clocked output circuit in post#12, the MCK-EX connects to a pad were original resonator was installed. It would be the pad that connects to pin 61 of LC78601 (XIN according to datasheet here: LC78601E datasheet pdf datenblatt - Sanyo Semicon Device - Compact Disc Player DSP with Built-in Microcontroller ::: ALLDATASHEET ::: )
Peter, beautiful work as always. Wish I could find somewhere to pick up one of these old JVC boxes!!
As usual Peter very nice work. The only snag for me here is the SC944. If my memory serves (and it may not) doesn't Scientific Conversion want a minimum order of 10 or something like that?

It doesn't need to be SC, you can use any other transformer. For instance: Digi-Key - 470-1003-ND (Manufacturer - S22083)
Those are commonly used in aircraft industry, I'm not familiar with any retailer that sells them. If mcmaster don't have them, I don't know who else would.

What is the CD holder made of? What actions are necessary to put on and take off the CD? Is it modified from the original?
You mean the clamp? It's taken out of the boombox.
It works exactly same way as analog turntable: lift the (magnetic) clamp, change the disc, put the clamp back on.

Setting a new book mark here... Great summary report Peter! MUCH easier than the three-day epic I went through for the first one!🙁
Thanks!
Thanks!
Now comes the PS part.
48VA Hammond transformer (166L24) fits perfectly in a Hammond 1590T enclosure. The diodes are mounted directly to connector socket and the whole thing came out quite elegant and simple.
Is it safe to leave those msr860 floating around in there? The backs of them are connected to the output pin. Did you insulate them?
