An early example of trolling, written perhaps by actual trolls!
"No one knows who they were, or what they were doing."

No - it is actually part of the Voynich manuscript. No one has managed to decipher it, and the thinking is that there is actually no meaning at all, and that it was an elaborate medieval hoax. The only thing that is known for certain from radio carbon dating is that it was written between 1404 and 1438.
It is full of illustrations, and looks for all the world as if it is a text book describing the natural world. Except many of the detailed illustrations of plants are themselves made up. But tantalizingly some are recognizable.
Ah - ok. I've heard of that but never looked at it. If greater minds have not deciphered it, I think I'll give it a skip 😉

Don’t skip it. Even if it is completely fabricated, it’s a peace if art that with many illustrations is very nice to look at.
In those pictures are even things to be found that nobody was supposed to have known at that time.
The other thing that is very remarkable, the complete large handwritten document has not a single point where the writer had a small mishap and had to make a correction.
So it is at least very intriguing.

The mysterious Voynich manuscript has finally been decoded [UPDATED] | Ars Technica
Apparently the tome is about cures to women's health issues by use of various plants and plant substances......or so the latest analysis supposes...
Howie
Well, not necessarily. His "translation" is not really that at all. If he had cracked the meaning of the text, where is his overall translation?
The academic community is having none of it; from the same source So much for that Voynich manuscript “solution” | Ars Technica
So it is either
(a) a cipher of some sort. However none of the cryptanalysis community have cracked it. And there are some seriously smart cookies have tried over the decades. It could however have been a one-time code, in which case if the key is lost all you have left is indecipherable gibberish.
(b) truly gibberish.
But there is evidence from rather earlier in history of made-up scripts. A Benedictine Abbess from the 11th/12th century called Hildegard of Bingen constructed a made up language of symbols. I had previously known her music (which is superb), and only recently read about her language. She was a real genius medieval polymath Hildegard of Bingen - Wikipedia
However, as has been said the Voynich really is a thing of beauty, and clearly took a tremendous amount of work.

Some say that about Henry Darger's 15,000 page book.
On Henry Darger's 15,000-Page Novel
Good grief - never heard of Darger - but had to find out more. This multi-volume, never published 15,000-word manuscript, is entitled "The Story of the Vivian Girls, in what is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion"
Vivan Girls, not to put too fine a point on it, are little girls with penises. There are dozens of epic paintings that were intended to illustrate this novel, that show that particular anatomical feature.
He hand bound his manuscript in cardboard and wallpaper.
Darger, it would seem, was a very strange guy.

Pooooor Moderators! How far can diyaudio s-t-r-e-t-c-h, to accommodate the random conversational bits that arise...
Yeah - in fairness to the moderators we have somewhat veered off technical discussions; holds hand up.
Just in the real footage.
Perseverance Rover’s Descent and Touchdown on Mars (Official NASA Video) - YouTube
NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.
The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

At least it only takes a few seconds for each position.
