Gasoline is down 30% per liter here. Should we be celebrating?

US $1.95/gal(US). Skreee, top the tank!!! I just discovered Ben&Jerry ice cream is up from $3.50 to $4.30, and maybe gasoline is on a fall/RISE trajectory also?

Backstory: price of bunker fuel (heavy glop used in BIG ships) is down from $450 at New Year to $300 last week. Reduced cargoes, China and worldwide. Car-juice demand may not be down so much, but it all comes out of the same barrel.

For those who have not seen it here is the little paper that changed Boris Johnson's mind.

https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/im...-College-COVID19-NPI-modelling-16-03-2020.pdf

Halas B Johnson still doesn't get it : it seems today despite his speech, there is still a lot of people everywhere, sort of half lock-down... It's still a problem cause France, Spain, Italy, Belgium is asked a lot of effort but airports and tube (GB/France) still work with GB, less but still ! My understanding is Netherlands is in a sort of half lock down as well ! Things are going fast though. Danger is to see a bounce from GB towards these country, so towards Europe. I hope they understood that and lock down the states in USA at same time and freeze transports between states but for important goods and staffs (medical, security, supply-chain)

Some infos I asked there few days ago with no answer because I think it wasn't experienced yet withthat virus, got it from hospital dpt interview but if false don't hesitate to correct it

-average time life of the virus on skin 4 to 6 hours

- average time on inert surfaces is between 2 days and ten days ! (was surprised a lot by these last numbers.

Alcohlic liquid & spray is usefull to clean some surfaces or objects you bring down at home. (some talked about UV exposition also). That may explain China "cleaned" their monney in some area. Well as I'm a little paranoid : a little alcohlic spray on the cash, just in case !

Gloves are counterproductive (but if you have cut) cause they can eventually infect your skin when you putt it off or when you use it again (tissus, no one use gloves) ... Importance of washing the hands is very important. the best is not to touch one's face.

On a good note, one of the most infcted italian town that locked down early in the North is seing the numbers reducing caus there was/is a serious lock-down people are following ! 🙂

I expect meat and other perishables will go on sale in a week or so as people quit shopping.

Too bad my freezer is full.

I just went to the supermarket at around 10:45AM this morning. Almost all vegetables gone. Almost all of the meat gone (a couple of trays of sliced chicken breast). Still some fruit.

I didn't think I'd see perishables in this state. What I'm not sure about is this due to stockpiling (some stuff you can freeze) or is it simply that people are staying home and need to cook themselves and the "normal" supply levels are not enough.

Tony.

diyiggy, I use a credit card, no money at this point and many merchants here finally have machines that can read the chips so I don't even have to surrender my card, removing one possible path of transmission. Every little bit helps. Google/Apple/Samsung Pay are looking more attractive as well.

yep, as far the man in front of you is not touching the card or your card is not touching a contaminated surface it is ok I beleive... RFID (without contact payment) is very cool indeed 🙂. Coins and paper is still a lot used everywhere, so better to leave in your suit pockets or in a cup at home and spray it if you live with someone (children like to touch things for illustration)

Yup never leaves your hand, the other option is Samsung Pay which here in the U.S. works almost everywhere that accepts credit cards. I have an S9 so I think that is the route I will choose - contactless.

Fortunately no kids here, our inlaws don't have any either. We decided to spare the world from more of us.. We're pretty "mature" LOL

Even though the credit card chip reader is good we are all still contronting the touchscreen.

I was at the DMV here in the ba area (still open even though we are in "lock down") and they kept everyone 6' apart (good) but overlooked the touch screens and the fingerprint scanners as vectors. These thinks are all a difficult learning curve no matter how obvious.

Lots to learn and lots of opportunities for infection control for the ingenious. And opportunities for the less than scrupulous.

A coworker was describing a situation where, months ago, he’d been prescribed some stiff antibiotics to tackle something in the ear canal. After a few days, his fingertips had their skin begin to dry up, and crumble away. The doctor said it was normal, and that the large amounts of bacteria that are common to typical finger tips were being consumed by the antibiotics.
Just think about that the next time you wipe your eye...
