@ C Darwin : Yep I know and repeat that with many posts. The first part of your sentence seemed to me confusing or hard to understand, I think you maybe wanted to say the opposit ? I'm agree it's not contradicting each otthers. What I wanted to say with the link to the post is confinment kill the virus within you if you read it. So if in an ideal situation everybody quarantened will we have the virus yet brcause no bounce possible from personn to personn after 45 days isolated?
My understanding is it's not resistant in the body after the recovry period. it's not HIV or Herpes.
Do we know about covid-19 resiliance ? I heard there was a sequencing map of it documented h24 and worldwide access for scientists ?
Will it be still there in time like the flu because mutations ? Cause for instance the 2009 last one from China & Mexic was stoped ??
Our virologist member seems to say labs don't know yet ?

I was thinking of the looks I would get wearing a Tyvek suit, and my half face respirator with canister filter cartridges. I just use hand sanitizer after getting back in the car to head home, nothing else. Be aware of others whom are hacking and coughing so you can avoid them.
Our daughter wanted to go to the store, told her she could go but to wear some latex gloves that we provided.

I wonder if I should set up the old EPROM eraser UV lamp next to the sink with a foot switch. Put hands under lamp, press switch, rotate hands to expose all surfaces for a few seconds and release the foot switch.
anyone hearing about a potential treatment for this disease. It's called chloroquine. Apparently an old treatment for malaria. Sounds like it could be very promising.
So I see people lamenting that all the bread flour is gone. That is what I have seen also. the only difference is that the bread flour has more gluten in it. So I bought all purpose and mixed in oatmeal that I had powdered in a blender. Made a batch of bread using 2.5 cups of flour and a tablespoon of oatmeal powder. Came out great.

It's being trialed in China and SK. It may or may not work. It has some significant side effects, though for short term might be ok. Hydroxychloroquine is a metabolite of chloroquine and has fewer side effects. It's sold as Plaquenil in the US and used for various autoimmune disorders typically.
Saw a quick interview on the news with a doc and he described a trial of 30 taking the drug and 30 on placebo. After X amount of weeks all 30 on drug tested negative for 19 and all on placebo tested positive. Not sure about anything else.
No problem. If you don't have warm water, washing your hands for longer would be recommended. As you said, soap works by tearing apart cell membranes and by protein denaturation (unfolds it). This is molecular activity that all happens much faster when warm, which is why we say to wash with soap and warm water. It will take about 10 times as long according to the thermodynamic rules to do the same "amount of damage". However, honestly, so much good is done by just washing your hands at all that the added efficiency of warm water vs cold is almost moot, so I wouldn't (and don't) worry. Good for surgery prep? No. Good enough to stop the virus? Almost assuredly.
I 100% agree with your end assessment, but neither of us know the rate equation (half life) for this virus in soap. My understanding of washing for 30 s was far less about needing the time to kill the virus (half life in single seconds) and far more about making darn sure you've gotten into every nook and cranny. Obviously longer washing will cross more half lives and 10 C hotter will double kinetics according to Arrhenius equation. But that may be providing marginal gains, I don't know.
That's all semantics, again, agree entirely that the important thing to do is wash often and more thoroughly than you're used to. Thanks for fielding these kinds of questions, by the way.
Look on YouTube for MedCram. There is an in depth video there just posted on the past week looking at that. MedCram's Covid-19 coverage is about as good as it gets.anyone hearing about a potential treatment for this disease. It's called chloroquine. Apparently an old treatment for malaria. I was thinking of prevention from encountering those asymptomatic carriers, where I read the transmission vector is touching something they touched (i.e. shopping cart handle) then inadvertently touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Gloves provide a barrier that can be stripped off and discarded - but you still better not touch certain body parts while wearing them in a contaminated state.
From Nature article https://www.nature.com/articles/s41422-020-0282-0.pdf "Besides its antiviral activity, chloroquine has an immune-modulating activity, which may synergistically enhance its antiviral effect in vivo. Chloroquine is widely distributed in the whole body, including lung, after oral administration. The EC90 value of chloroquine against the 2019-nCoV in Vero E6 cells was 6.90 μM, which can be clinically achievable as demonstrated in the plasma of rheumatoid arthritis patients who received 500 mg administration."It's being trialed in China and SK. And
From Chloroquine Confirmed Effective as Coronavirus Cure : Headlines : HNGN - Headlines & Global News "Patients treated with chloroquine required a shorter time to recover, exhibited a better drop in fever, and had improvement of lung CT images, compared to parallel groups"
What do you guys think?

I once had - may still - one of those battery powered "wand" UV sanitizers, meant for toilet seats and the like.
Problem is, I have no idea what exposure would be needed to kill off this virus from finger surface / fingernail edges. Seems risky to trust as a lone prevention.
Example, can I just illuminate the keypad of a credit card machine to kill any virus that may transfer to my fingers? How long, 30 seconds?
What about if asked for a signature using a pen - the same one that everyone else touched all day long - which I encountered today at the Franz bread outlet. Using such a device seems tempting, but how would you know?

yep link to very informative video was posted before The Biology and Immunology Corner
I've also heard on the grapevine that there is a second anti-malarial drug which also seems to be helping but so far trials show that the cloroquine is better. The other one is still apparently under patent, and therefor much more expensive.
Tony.

why ban it, whats to fear from information? Its not like the MSM is always right and they don't seem to get banned. ZH does alot of aggregation and yes they sometimes get it wrong. Did you read the article or is it wrong because they were banned on twitter?
You are right, at least also in my case. Fever does not allow me to fall asleep. There may some truth to that, but I have always had better luck following the advice of our family doctor from years ago who always recommended taking everything to make you get a better night's sleep and being better rested to help your body fight the sickness.
I'd noticed this in Canada's "National Post"
I think this might mean we've got a large spike of cases coming soon.
Canadians may have been lulled into a false sense of security by the relatively small number of confirmed cases – 324 by Monday evening. But a press conference by Ottawa’s medical officer for health, Dr. Vera Etches, on Sunday suggested that the confirmed cases number should be treated with caution. She said that 10 people had been diagnosed in Ottawa but that some of those people had been walking around undiagnosed for weeks, so that hundreds of people could be infected in the city.

No, they're still going "under the radar" unless a proper and low threshold test setup will be arranged. Probably not much difference on the official statistics.

Unfortunately, those battery powered ones aren't too powerful. I don't have any evidence, but I've been skeptical that they emit enough energy quickly enough for how most people would use them. The phone ones are good because they are encased and the UV-C LEDs are right against the phone. If you are cleaning a keypad with a wand, I would hold it right up to it for a at least 30 seconds or so. That will probably be effective.
And remember, you can get your hands contaminated with virus a million different ways, but it can't get through your hand (unless your wounded). If you are diligent about washing your hands (and the handles of sink afterwards!), you should be much safer.
