Do you use normal solderwire for the SMD stuff or solderpaste. You know, the kind that comes in a syringe.

You can use solder paste but I use a flux pen and fine diameter rosin core wire.

In the meantime, here is a SMD soldering tutorial that's hosted on this site. I just read through it and the information is spot on. Except for the part about the $20 hot air pencil. I tried to make one a while back and it didn't work well at all.

pic#1 Explaination: two complete kits of parts in pic#1 inc. complete bill o' materials = bags o' parts and boards and ferrite donuts for the coils ...

Included in picture 1 above:
one PS filter board from elsewhere (20000 uF per rail w/diode bridge, fuses & LEDs) ...
one "lunch box" type Ta-kill-ya bottle container with chips and playing cards (party time!) with a clear plastic face plate for show and tell (It seemed like such a good looking amp chassis / container I couldn't resist) ... construction details to follow ...

Included in picture 2: The board close up ... very nice work = I had Brian install the chips ahead of time with a small bribe of parts and TLC ...


(I just happened to swing by the office today and there it was (Saturday delivery) ... California Mail Service Rules!!)
