What's the source of this oscillation on the V2? I missed this altogether
Is it just a theoretic problem or does it occur in practice (or reduced stability)? What effects does this have on the sound?

It was an intermittent issue that did not appear in testing. The oscillation prevented the circuit from functioning at all. The issue can be rectified by putting some capacitance from the output of the reg to the negative of the 26V input. Another option is to replace the inductor with a resistor of the same footprint with equal DC resistance.

Ah, right - an easy fix. If an other hidden problems respond to simple solutions like this, you've done remarkably well indeed!
Yeah a pretty easy fix, was disappointing to discover, but at least I came across it before someone else. Would have been a bit tricky to diagnose without a scope.
Hey James, one other thing while I've got you here. Can you give a short description of the comparison we made between your reference DAC and my current DAC? Sorry to put you on the spot, I was going to try and describe it myself but you are much more experienced in listening for differences... what with all your experience in recording some pretty big names back in the day...

You gotta love people poo pooing others hard work, its really starting to get to me how certain people here on these forums just want to shoot others down its like you are supposed to feel guilty for enjoying your goals.
Yeah, I think this type of behaviour turns people away from forums. It's much more pleasant when people are at least polite and well mannered. The highly opinionated people I can tolerate, but when you get this and the later all together... it does get a bit much to say the least.
It reminds me of when Bob Pragnell was practically shot down in flames for sharing his work. He made some voltage biased interconnects, and a whole team of snake oil (as they called it) haters ganged up on him basically saying how ridiculous his work was. As a result he no longer hangs around here. Quite a shame, because a man with his experience was good to have around. I'm sure their are many more cases similar to this.

Yeah, no problem Ryan - in fact, the discrepancy between the 1541A dac and my 'oh so magic' Ayre Acoustic QB-9 dac was so big that I took the damn thing over to the Clark Audio guys to find out what's gone wrong with it - in comparison, the stereo image didn't exist altho the extra dynamic range of the 24/96k was quite okay - this was one hell of a nasty surprise and it certainly reinforces the ability of your system with 'ye ol' 1541A dac chip'!
Over the years, some of the most musical dacs would be the AMR CD-77, the Cambridge CD-3(?) and the Sugden cd player (9000? not sure) - all based on the venerable 1541A dac chip - plus many of the less commercial/diy offering (Killerdac, Lampizator, AYA, etc)
30 years and still commanding respect ....

But in this case as i've mentioned before when attenuating LE it only sounded better when using the diode attenuator, the resistive attenuator smeared the image and had a tendency to be pulled to the left.
Well I hope there isn't anything wrong with your QB-9. It will be interesting to hear some more comparisons this weekend.

done. For me Aya is really done. Now that CFT brought to my
attention that the SD Trans can output direct PCM to the TDA,
this will be the last thing to try. Almost jitter free connection
& why not . Lol . Soon have to re focus to get back & complete
my hybrid amp

thanks to the help you guys are offering, i almost finished my project.
right now i`m in the dark again.
i`m using this box:

it allows me to get a coaxial and a spdif connection over usb.
it comes with it`s own asio windows driver and works very well.
i just realized i dont have a WS, DATA/L DATA/R only a BCK
i asume i need a different usb conversion board
can someone please recommend a suitable board.

The best when having a PC with USB output is Something which convert it directly in I2S (or PCM for the simultaneous way) :
Wave I/O board has uf-l output plugs ! the IanCanada USB/SPIDF to I2S board as well.
you can also us a Raspberry Pi with a uf-l I2S plugs hat .

I dont think anyone is 'ganging up on you' because your 'idea' is so revolutionary and could be interpreted as 'snake oil'. I also don't think unless you invent something original that you can hold yourself in the same esteem as someone who's absence would represent someone who would be missed.
I'm not sure how you can even draw a connection between your situation and the one which you mention = it doesn't make sense, its ridiculous.
Eldam correctly said that various people contributed toward an open 1541A build. Record shows that after some time you grabbed the bag, closed the door, opened a new thread and started selling Printed Circuit Boards.
And the design was premature and flawed. And since then several attempts to 'improve it'. You know, even if you have the worlds best non-oscillating 1541A digital board available (which is laughable.. really hard laughable which gives me cramp and sends me to the toilet) I wouldn't buy it on principle..
And thats the point !.
You cant simply say that 'oh yeah, Galileo said the Earth was round and they shot him down = just like me'
Sorry about this, but you need to rise above emotion and report accurately. And if you cannot, someone else will.

I'm sure its great for what it does...but I'd be looking for FIFO RAM buffer between USB source and the PCM board which should be held local to the DAC along with a dedicated clock, and isolated from the FIFO and anything upstream.

To put a worked design into the public gaze is quite an achievement. It is also a fact that any such design will attract comment, both good and bad.
However detracting from, and calling out from the sidelines without offering useful input is not in the spirit of diyAudio, as is resorting to somewhat derogatory comments to try and make a point.
Argue your points on a technical basis. If you can not do that then refrain from posting.
