TABAQ TL for Tangband

Finally I built these little speakers, I'm so impressed. Everything as from initial build plan, speakers are W3-315E. Enclosures from 12mm plywood. My setup includes small subwoofer, they're dedicated for TV. Just for music sub is not necessary. I would like to say many thanks to Bjorn for the idea and calculations.:worship:

Had some time to draw in CAD

I thought I would post this CAD drawing of the two TABAQ speakers I have built. I passed it by Bjorn for his comments, and so here it is. Need to run out to the shop now to continue veneering. Hope this helps some.

This is GREAT. Thanks!
This might sound awkward, so I apologize now if it does, but do you have a higher resolution image of this? When I bring it up to size to print, some of the numbers get a little fuzzy to me. Again, sorry for sounding ungrateful. That is not the case. I am very grateful you took the time and put this together and now you're sharing it. THANK YOU!

I'm working on my second pair of TABAQs today. The pair I've been listening to lately have Dayton PS 95 drivers in them. I have them against a wall and they sound far better than one would expect. Thus, I'm building another set.

I have a few Tangband drivers on the shelf, so I haven't decided which driver I'll use. First, I think I'll try a pair of Tang Band W4-1337SD drivers. I like to build mine with a removal baffle as in GraphicCanuk's illustration so I can swap out drivers. I might build another slightly larger, as in a previous post, for the 1337s.
At any rate, thanks GraphicCanuk for the illustration, thanks Bjorn for sharing your design, and thanks to all who keep this thread going with great information.
Mike

My CAD program will not export a PDF directly, so I saved as a TIFF and then in Photoshop exported it as a PDF. I can't get it much better then this unfortunately. Hope this works/prints a bit clearer.

I am hoping to post somehow either link to video or soundclip of my system with the Faital Pros just so some can get an idea of the sound they make. I now have two subs and two bridged mono block amps with DAC and it sounds pretty amazing. Huge soundstage.

Thanks! That's better.

Hi. Thanks for sharing.
The design pdf says units in MM. It doesn't make much sense though. It seems like most units are inches with some others in mm. Could you please clarify that?

hi,

for w3-881sjf owners:

has anyone noticed a peak in the upper octave (around 15kHz) Or does is have a pretty constant response trough the spectrum? The datasheet shows a pretty falt response across but i saw a measurement on youtube showing a peak.

see in the middle of the video:

I see what manokaiser is talking about. I think what happened when I moved a DXF file into a new version of the CAD version it has converted the file. Originally I drew this in mm because I only build using metric. I will look at this again and fix it and then repost the PDF file. Sorry for any confusion.

Here's the graph from the video. Personally, that peak at 15k would not bother me at all (because it's so high).

Yes it is rare to hear sustained sound located at that frequency: Mostly cymbal type of sounds.

If the microphone was very close and on axis, it would not bother me much. But i also see a slowly downward slope for the response, overall, which makes me think this was taken off-axis, which is a bit more worrying....guess i will have to ask the guy....

OK so i bought a pair of w3-881sjf and put one inside a closed box for now, to give a taste. I have it driven by an F4 (sans buffer) from my sound card, and i must say that like any good fullrange, it is super transparent. I have no analyser whatsoever at hand, so only subjective opinions....i would say that the top end of the spectrum is very good, cymbals sound very realistic and detailed like no other fullrange i have tried (i only tried larger full rangers). And when i used the screw connection on the binding post inside the speaker, i lost quite a bit of «detail» and it sounded dull, so one has to make sure to solder whenever possible from amp output stage to driver terminals. The rest of the spectrum is also very good with pretty tight bass at low listening level (below 1 watt or so). I don't feel the need for a bass driver for desktop/bedroom listening. I will continue to experiment a bit with amps and stuffing, etc, before i go to bass reflex of TABAQ: these can do bass well when amped properly, so no need to hide it in closed box i think. As for excursion limit, i would say it is around more or less 10mm peak to peak...anyway i wouldn't push it a lot more than that for sure. beyond that the outer rubber suspension gets a bit squashed

Hi all:

i read Stuffing TABAQ TB 4 Inch guide after, interesting about Cross section area, value change to 154 cm2, it's speaker front side to end side inner length right?

QUOTE=Bjohannesen;5719370]Hi

This is a different model, but you could use it as a pretty good guideline.
