I have all the details including T/s parameters, SPL and impedance plotsand some spare drivers

Re: Peerless India in India
Today, if I was building a speaker of any consequence and wanted dependable quality of tweeters, I'd probably go for the Vifa D27 from Corrson. More expensive than what Himanshu has quoted for the Peerless India domes, but at least supply is dependable and you get ready data and int'l knowledge base about its performance. From what I've heard, the Peerless domes are very good too.
It seems you may have missed all the discussions about Peerless India in earlier India-related posts. Have you seen this post for instance?brokenbinil said:hey buddy himangshu .... u mean to say peerless drivers are readily available in india .... where?

Hi all,
The current speaker system I am using is a 2 way with Peerless SKO130 5.25 inch coated paper woofer and T25 fabric dome tweeter. Now, I bought the D27 and TC18WG49 and I am making a floorstander. Three days ago, I was comparing both tweeters and I found that the Peerless tweeter sounds better than the D27. There might be other factors that influenced the sound which I don't know but I certainly felt the Peerless sounded better.

Newbie projects?
Hello all,
reading this (giant!) thread has been a major learning experience - it
was very heartening to know that there are so many Indian audio hackers.
Are there any canned, off-the-shelf projects available for a newbie? I'd
like it to be a bookshelf intended for music. First projects are not usually usable
as finished products so I don't want to spend a whole lot. Can probably put in ~8k.
Are there any designs which use components readily available in India without a lot of hunting?
The Dayton III on speakerbuilder.net sounds good, but I don't suppose those
drivers are available here. I know corrson stocks vifas, but they look a tad on
the expensive side.
Also, (and this is where I go offtopic), what are your opinions on
made-in-india speakers (both bookshelf/floorstanders)? It's very unfortunate hat
there are practically no reviews of these online.
1. Lithos studio 1
2. Sonodyne Sonus
3. Torvin
4. Corrson kits.
5. Rhythm Affairs - These guys sell on baazee and their spiel is intriguing. I
would be very interested to know how they sound. Anyone in Noida who can
check them out?

T/S parameters for Indian drivers
First of all, Himanshu aint a dealer, so whatever price I got, I am selling em. You might be knowing that Peerless India has raised it prices by 20 % internationally, so plz incorporate that.
Secondly, I have a close friend of mine leading a team of QA engineers at Peerless, and the model which I am talking is actually used in very high end systems internationally, perhaps better than Vifa D27.
Vifa provides standar T/s parameters, standard SPL and imp plots to my knowldge
Peerless India provides BATCH WISE DETAILS, WHICH ARE " MOST ACCURATE"
People like Rick Craig, Dennis Murphy, the gurs of crossovers actually go by batch parameters.
LAst but not the least, if you hear it you can measure it!
And the smooth SPL and imp plot of Peerless dome is just amazing.
Rock on!

Precisely what I said in my earlier post. Why the fuss about Vifa when the Peerless tweeters sound better. I wish I had learnt about this before I bought the D27s.

Which model of tweeter is this? Do they have any woofers?

Hi VIvek!
Ia m talking about T 25 SM I 06, silk dome with ferro fluid cooling, it has Fs of 1200 Hz, and gosh I never headr anything like it before. Provided that you have good crossover network, they sound cool!
More about Peerless:
Most of the people dont know that: following brand are now being assembled in India:
Heybrook, KEF, Eltec, few canadian and Danish companies. The cabinet is being manufactured by a Co owned by Mr Vallabhbhai.
The Silk dome, suspension is STILL BEING IMPORTED FROM Denmark! Ha.
Although Mr Damodar Ratha and Dev kumar have broken the alliance long back Peerless, Dk. But technical colloboration still aint over!
Last but not the least the accuracy of driver specs is +- 10 %!!! Which is amazing!
Here is the website of Rhythm affairs.

I'm Anand from Chennai. Been observing this forum for couple of months now. Really intresting to know there are so many like minded people in India.....i've myself been an Audiophile and DIY buff for years.
The trigger for my entry was the discussion comparing VIFA and peerless tweeters. I have tried both and would like to share my experience . The peerless india tweeters and VIFA D27 are both definetly good drivers.
I bough my D27 from UK while travelling there. When i initially compared both i, the peerless did sound better. But after the VIFA broke-in and i made further changes in crossovers over a period of time. Finally the D27 did sound far better than peerless. There was more air around the highs and the soundstage was more natural with the D27....today D27 is the choice is my main speakers.
The answer is not just the drivers, but the crossover, driver's relative position, interal-wiring, etc., all would affect the end result.
Again this is my experience...so i think everyone should thier own judgement. My recommendation do try various option....that's the spirit of DIY ..is'nt 😀

Hi Anand,
Nice to meet another audio geek! ;-)
As you correctly said that the design of the crossover network is the most important.
I dicussed the RUNNING IN matter with Peerless engineers, and they have given some useful insights.
As we know both Peerless and D 27 are both ferrofluid cooled. Although it is the rule that one should cross a tweeter atleast 1 octave above the Fs but in case of ferro fluid cooling it is said that one can cross lower.
Also after running in the tweeters, the ferro fluid cool becomes slightly SMOOTH and results in more open sound as you rightly said.
Again I believe in one thing, if you hear it you can measure it!
BTW have u built any Power amps?

Hi ,
Sorry, i do build amps. I'm using a Hongkong made - Tube integrated amp (KT88 based). Have'nt ventured into the electronic aspect of DIY..

I tested the D27s just after they were bought. Perhpas, as Anand said, they will get better after the break-in. Will keep you guys updated on that.

I find Linkwitz's method of testing drivers more accurate. It is important to measure the linear and non linear distortions of the drivers to decide which one is better.
I have used Peerless Tweeter SR-10DT. I purchased them from Choudhary Tranding Mumbai. I was promised specs along with the shipment, but nothing came. These tweeters measure and perform pretty well.
We have had lot of discussion in these forums about availability of Peerless drivers in India, but still we do not have a reliable source from where we can purchase them. What I have learnt is, time to time Peerless India off loads (why??) some drivers to some one in Mumbai who in turn supplies to the shops around the country. So depending on when you have the urge to buy drivers, you are at the mercy of choosing whatever is available at that time, and you will be very lucky if you get a spec sheet.

Hi Anand
Is this model the Billie sold by Brian Cherry? I'm interested in knowing more..
I have built a couple of amps for audio-one is an EL 34 based pp 35wpc from Welborne Labs(USA) and another is a solid state 55wpc from AKSA(Australia), also two preamps one valve and another solid state. I'd like to meet up with you on my next trip to Chennai (my elder son studies at Loyola, so I come there maybe once in 6 months or so).
I have also built my speakers( 2-ways, one using Scanspeaks and another using Focals and Ravens, and HT using Audax drivers) and powered subs both for audio and HT.
If you happen to come to Bangalore you're welcome to drop by listen.

Gentlemen
I want to upgrade my front car speakers on my Opel Astra. When I upgraded the rear ones, the OEM speakers that I removed were the lowest cost Philips ones, and I dont know what to expect from the door mounted speakers. I have installed Focals in the rear shelf, and could anyone suggest a decent set for the door speakers?
Model, brand, prices welcome. My son is going for a week to Dubai on Monday so I could ask him to bring it from there el cheapo..Or I could get it locally from the grey market. Since the mounting area is less, on the door, what size (dia) of drivers are recommended and should I go for coaxial ones?
TIA
