Delta transformers.
Does anyone know if Delta Transformers in Delhi have a web site ? Any other contact details? I wanted to have a look at the specs of their audio transformers.
Thanks.
Ashok.

i met Mr Nagpal of Sonotone at a recent audio show in mumbai at nehru center. he said he has some woofers from JBL and P Audio. since i was looking for 8" woofers I only asked him about those. what size drviers do youneed. what is your aplication (dipole sub, etc...). we can take this offline if you wish. Nagpal can be conacted at paudio_india@hotmail.com.
I have still to make time to see the woofers.

Any decent eight or 10 inch one will do. I am looking at a simple subwoofer design for my receiver. Direct radiator or 4th order bandpass are what I prefer.
What are the prices like?
My e-mail id is cqd@rediffmail.com, what's yours?

i put in a call to another friend. he is thinking of importing 100 woofers and 100 tweeters using probably Vifa's TC series.
he has just finished desiging 80W rms and 15W rms amp modules - I have not heard them so I will reserve judgement on this.
he hopes to confgure an amp that has 5 channels of 80W and 5 of 15W and using a cable that is 4 core to create a bimaped HT/AV amp-speaker combo.
I hope to add some drivers for my use when he imports this bulk. if you guys let me know what Vifa drivers you need/use i can request him to include drivers for all of us.

Hmm! Anything that will be good for a sub will do. I need to check the Vifas. Any idea which Vifa will be good for a sub?
Hi Navin
Since you are the guru, I will trust you for the following:
Drivers for a floor stander:
3 Way. Moderatly sensitive. Ported. I will be using a 30+ amp currently. In future a Leach (120 wts) amp. So looking for a compromise. 8" woofers will be preferable. 8 Ohms
Drivers for high efficiency Bookshelf:
2 way. Will be driven by a small Valve amp. Sealed box. 15 watts max. 6-8 Ohms.
Driver for a Subwoofer:
At least 12". Any configuration that you'd suggest.
Pls let me know.

me no guru. (neither do i have a method and i am still looking for a teacher) 🙂
i tell you what i intend to get (since i might be limited to the Vifa TC series) for a floor stander.
per speaker.....(double qty for a pair)
1 x http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/tc26tg05-06d.htm
3 x http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/tc18wg49-08d.htm
this is only because i willbe limited to the vifa tc range if i have the whole vifa range or atleast the vifa calssic range to choose from i would consider the
http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/d27tg-35-06a.htm
and
http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/m18wo-09-08d.htm
however this design of mine involves using 2 8ohm woofers in series which i hear is not a good thing since the large inductances (1mh) of woofers can be problematic. Vifa does not make any 16 ohms drivers.....
as far as 12" drivers go I think there are better drivers out there for pure bass applications than anything vifa has. I would consider lambdas , brahmas, shivas, etc...but that would have to be a seperate import. i would even consider the JBL 2235, 2245 or tempest, maelstrom, etc... but these require huge boxes.

For a 3 way I would look at a system using a 10" woofer, 4" midrange and a tweeter. i would then biamp at about 200-250Hz. Tony Gee has some good desings like the Andromeda he uses a lot of SEAS. One day when I have a lage apt and more money i will build his Progress http://home.hetnet.nl/~geenius/Diary.html.
as far as 10" is concerned...http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/pl26wr09-08d.htm is a nice 10" to start with. SS (http://www.d-s-t.com/scs/data/26w_8861t00a.htm) and Seas also make some nice 10" but they are much more expensive. alternately we'll see if we can include some Peerless XLS subs for you.
one can easily build a floor stander that is say 12" wide, 14" D and 40" tall giving about 60 literes net. use 50 liters for a 10" and keep 10 liters for a 4" 2way using a nice mid (the Vifa M10 is dated). let me think....
if you are stuck on a 8" 3 way consider the http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/pl22wr09-08a.htm for the bass, http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/pl11mh09-08a.htm for mid and http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/pl27tg35-06a.htm for a all Vifa system. i am sure my friend will oblige me with this when he gets his act together

for a high sens bookshelf? how large a bookshelf? 6-8ohms high sens valve amp...consider Tony's http://home.hetnet.nl/~geenius/Solo103.html
no XO either!

Re: Delta transformers.
I am not sure whether Delta has a website, but I know the location of the Delta shop in Bhagirath Place in old Delhi. I can get you the address next time I visit the place.

Navin,
I sent mail to Mr Nagpal and I got the reply. Very quick. He asked me what the application was and I have replied. Can you suggest some good 8 or 10 inch drivers for a sub?

what is the box size you can get away with. 40 liters? 60 liters?
if you have 60 liters ask him for some 10" ers. I have very little exp with 10" other than a Vifa M25 in a bass reflex and the peerless 831727 in a 3 chamber band pass. the M25 required about 55 liters the 831727 required 60 liters (15 in front and 45 behind).

as far as 8" is concerned I am only familair with the M22 from Vifa they now make a souped up version called the PL22 but i dont think Nagpal has Vifa or Peerless. He has mostly JBL and P Audio and the like (see www.paudiosystem.com). he visits thailand very often. in fact he is headed there for the fair in Nov-Dec.
About the box size, I'll have to check. My mother may kick me out of the house if the box is too big. How would you rate the quality of the drivers?
Hey navin,vivek
I just checked out the P Audio site that was listed. The drivers there are all professional drivers and i was surprised to find that most of the woofers listed have an Fs above 50hz for reasonable sized drivers...also Xmax looks pretty low...
am i missing something...???

I have no problems with 10” drivers if that kind of a homologised import suits the group-buying plan. My current FS use 12” woofer in a 3 way ported box. Made by Allied Acoustics Calcutta. Sonodyne clone from the yesteryears. So think of me game for any type of imports that you eventually plan.
Thanx also for the BS building links. Over the past few months I’ve been investigating several such projects in the net. Everything comes unstuck when the issues of drivers sourcing arises. I’d spoken to Angshu (Hi Angshu !!) a few days ago regarding a special batch production at Bolton. You may like to exchange notes with him on the matter.

About a year ago I tried contacting Delta by email. I never got any response. In anycase their Output Transformers were never that great. Maybe OK for PA duty. But certainly no Hi Fi. I attach a scan from the Delta catalogue of mid 70’s. Check for your self. They are still available AFIK.

What amp would you be utilising to do the thankless job of driving this setup?
