Hi All
I'll post informations soon about Parts GB as previously announced at the beginning of "Subbu DAC V3" story 😉
I'm waiting for the Official Approved BOM to land in my mailbox.
Then I'll be abble to manage the Parts GB, calculate costs, etc...
For those who don't feel comfortable with SMD, I'll offer soldering and testing services ; then they'll receive a fully built & tested SPDIF DAC & PSU (no case, only PCB).
We have to manage logistics with Subbu, some points to fix.
I wish a full and quick recover to Jean-Paul.
Regards
Phil
i also would be interested in having SMD soldered depending on the price of course 🙂
Hi jayce996
Soldering and Testing may be provided but before I've to solve some points.
An adjusted rate is one aspect of the reflection vs the global cost of the DAC.
All outgoing DACs/PSUs will be checked and tested before shipping.
The real point is : How to deal with DIYers who don't know how to handle stuff and sent back stuff they've broken or considered as faulty...

The key to SMD by hand. Lots of light, lots of magnification, lots of flux, and NO coffee!
Plus a couple of human "failings":
1. Patience - It's not a race - TAKE YOUR TIME - Think about what you are doing and check and double check before you touch anything with the hot stick.
2. Confidence - When you get in your car, you don't think what could possibly go wrong - Otherwise you would never drive. With SMD soldering, you CAN do it, don't stress about it - You know the technique - Now pick that WM8804 and go for it!
Good luck - Ken
I put my name on the list a few days ago but have not recieved any confirmation. I dont want to be a pest, but I dont want to miss out on this😀. Any info would be appreciated.
Hi Subbu,
I also sent an email a week ago with the revision of my order. I removed the DAC board and only getting Power supply and the DAC chip. I will wait for the I2S version.

The same situation with me as with SoIL4x4.. Still waiting for some confirmation, invoice etc.

You guys just have to scroll back a few posts to see that he didn't get to answer all the mails at once. Subbu is a one man show doing ALL this in his free time.... so relax and wait.
+ a fine soldering tip (1mm) and solder wick for those bugs with a lot of terminals (wm8804, es9023)
fine tip is not recommended, its counter intuitive I know, but its wrong, it takes longer as doesnt have enough thermal mass, so will overheat the part more readily as you will spend longer, will be more likely to not get proper joints that need reflowing and cause shorts more readily than a 2-3mm chisel, this is especially important if there is a ground plane near.
plenty of flux, be confident
Hi All
I'll be out of Internet connexion for 15 days, hope it won't be more...
1° - Parts GB
As I still haven't received the Official BOM I'm unable to publish Parts GB final prices yet. However, I've created a form to register orders, only prices are missing. You select quantities for each Parts Kits : DAC and/or PSU.
No transformer will be included in the PSU Kit because of different voltage rating, increased weight and shipping costs, and would require larger boxes vs padded enveloppe. Those are standard and common values transformers that anyone could supply by himself.
You'll find further informations within the form, drop me a mail for special requests. I'll add Kits prices and further informations when back On Line...

2° - Assembly Service
The "Assembly Service" goal is to deliver a fully Soldered & Tested DAC to DIYer's who don't feel relaxed dealing with SMD. I've asked some opinion about the "adjusted price" and it seems reasonable. You'll have to mention Subbu to ship me your DAC/PSU PCB's and DAC Chips. Parts are required too, but I will provide them soon.
Important : All people asking "Assembly Service" know what they are talking about and are able to wire their DAC to the required PSU and SPDIF source. There will be no additional support. All soldered DAC's will be tested before shipping using my PSU v5.0. There's no warranty except the fact that all DAC's will be tested and burned in by myself before packing and shipping.

Can sommeone else publish it when (if) it arrives?I still haven't received the Official BOM
Official build thread
Guys,
I know this is not the first GB for this DAC. Was there any build thread purposely for this build before ?

Hi Subbu : payment send yesterday. Thank you for the work.
To all: Hi, this will be my first smd soldering, I'm a little scary to mistake and kill the cheap and i have a question : is it possible to glue the smd cheap (body to pcb) or blue tack first to avoid soldering. I know it's a crazy question but with contacts to contacts some says that without soldering the results in electrical could be better and with superglue no risk of moving ?

Have no fear!! Flux is your friend. Get some garbage pcbs from old electronics and practice a bit
